I have a fun, easy project for you this weekend!
My hubby and I had a great time experimenting with a DIY clock.
There are so many great ideas out there. I love this Chalkboard clock:
As soon as I can find a globe at a thrift store, I want to make this for my son's map-inspired room. It's cut in half at the hemisphere lines!
Of course, I could buy this one at Etsy.
My Mom has this unique clock from Uncommon Goods. It's a reindeer made from kitchen items like a loaf pan and measuring spoons. I love it, but I'd love it even more if I could make it!
Of course, I started with something easier.
That involves power tools.
Can I get a grunt, please?
Items needed:
Dinner plate (from my white dishes)
China Drill bit (these are also called Mason bits)
Clock kit (I got mine at the WalMarts in the craft section for under $5)
Numbers are optional. I am using metal scrap booking numbers I had in my craft cabinet.
My Plate and Supplies:
First, drill a hole in the center of the plate. Start slow and steady. I used a drill bit that would make a big enough hole for the clock kit to fit through. (There are different size clock kits, but I just grabbed the first one, so I had to get a drill bit the same size).
Once you have a hole, follow the instructions on the clock kit.
It was actually very easy and after I put a battery in, I squealed with the tick-tocking. I'm easy to please.
Isn't this the perfect kitchen clock?
Instead of attaching the metal numbers like I planned, it dawned on me that my clock plate could also double as a dry erase area. The markers wipe on and off easily!
And this just goes better with my life:

That's really cute. :) I love when people have cool things in their homes made into clocks.
Your special times make it so much better, though.
I love your sense of humor!

Great ideas! I love them all!
Oh thats great!!! Love the one with no numbers! :)
what a great idea! i've seen this before, but youi've inspired me to think of a clever clock to make for my newly re-done kitchen. i really like your saturday DIY projects. your home is beautiful, too. i think that my house would look cluttered if i did all that you do, but you manage to pull it off and make it look very homey. thanks for all your great tips. and i loved yesterday's post, BTW, i know just what you mean, and i feel the same way.
I love this idea. I will have to try this. :-)
Love the clock, I've wanted to try that but was wary of drilling through ceramics. You've given me the courage to try! :)
I also loved yesterday's post, it's already amazing to me, as a new blogger, how different I feel in this new "world." I can relate!
Thanks for the inspiration!
You crack me up. I can't go to Chik fil a with out thinking of you- I don't even like sweet tea! I did your diy project:I painted my tv cabinet black. I turned out fabulous. Thanks for the inspiration and confidence!

I think the unexpected trip to the ER should be on your second hand. You just never know when you are going to head over there!!!! Could be any second now! Have a great day and once again, thank you for sharing such a fun project!
Yep...I'm a blog surfer this Saturday morning (I should be folding laundry) but I had to comment on how funny the 6 read "burn dinner"! I laughed out loud! So funny and I so can relate!
I am happy I stumbled upon your blog and hope to return often for some artsy inspiration!
i'm often tempted to skip your diyp entries because i am not a diyp kind of girl. but i like your style. all the clocks are cool, but your uber-clever personlized times on the pie plate are inspiring me to give it a try! and it takes a lot to inspire me to any kind of project. thanks!
Cute clock. Finished product made me laugh!
It was good to talk to you yesterday!
You are so awesome! I love it!:)
Love the personal touch on your plate clock. So much better than the numbers! : )
Really cute ideas for such a staple in our homes. I especially liked the personalized plate. Can I come for sweet tea too?
LOL! I adore the clock you made. :)
I am SO doing this! I"ve often complained that I don't have a clock here and there AND I have a few old plates laying around from a long abandoned DIY project. I love, love, love, love how you personalized yours!!
it should say sweet tea break under each 1/2 hr I think. b/c braving the car line, burning dinner and going to the ER all account for Tea Time!
love it! I'm all about sweet tea breaks...and i live in the north east:)
oooohhhh... I am going to have to make the chalkboard clock sometime! Very cool! Love your plate, too!
LOL too cute.
Your clock looks great! Thanks for sharing just how easy it was! It looks like a great little project!
That is awesome! I love how it turned out. I also love what you did with the hutch, it turned out beautiful. You are so talented!
Great inspiration - I love them all. My favorite part of your blog: WalMarts - that inspired a warm memory of my dear grandma who always called it that :) Thanks for the smile!
Love it! =0)
Lovin' that clock!!
I've always wanted to try a clock kit. Your clock turned out fabulous - I LOVE what you wrote on it!
I was away all weekend so I'm just now catching up on all the blogs I read. Love your clock and sense of humor. I've always been intrigued by those clock kits, but never had any good ideas for what to do with them. That's why I read your blog! You should make the plate ones and sell them with customized permanent phrases. Very cute!
such a great idea and looks like it will be fairly easy to make. I love the plate idea. Thanks for such a great tip!
As I was sitting here looking at your ideas for clocks I had one come to me that I could replace the numbers on a cheap clock with pics of the kids holding up their fingers for the corresponding number.
I am sure it is done somewhere before but I am going to do it for my dad's new office. Thanks for the inspirations.
