DIYP-A Mirror on a Mirror

I have this plane jane (no offense jane) large standard mirror in my master bathroom. Ever since I saw The Nester hang a mirror over a mirror, I've been hunting for a large round one to hang over the mirror I have.

But those suckers are expensive.

But at a garage sale the other day, I found this mirror for TEN BUCKS. It was pretty ornate and gaudy gold, but it had promise. Plus, did I mention TEN BUCKS?

(here it is leaning casually against my bathroom mirror)
(do you know HOW HARD it is to take a picture of a mirror without also capturing a body part?)

I debated on paint color. Initially I thought ivory, but my cabinets are white, so I went with chocolate spray paint since  I have a lot of bronze accents. I taped off the glass with the comic section, so I could multi task and read the funnies:

I found this fancy hook at Hobby Lobby for $3 and my hubby hung wire from the back of the mirror to the hook. Don't you like the color better now?

In order to hide the wire, I just tucked some pretty ribbon around it:

I really love the way it turned out. The mirror makes my whole bathroom look unique!

(I took this picture standing on the corner of the tub. On my tippy toes. But I'm not going to tell you how many retakes there were!)

This looks so great! I love the new color and the way you hung it. My friend just did some pink ones in her girls' bathroom, I can't wait to show them on my blog.

I never would have thought of putting a mirror OVER a mirror! How smart are you?!?

It brought back memories of me taking down an entire bathroom mirror BY MYSELF, when my husband was out of town. Instructions to 3-year-old when I realized that it was too heavy, and dangerous, and couldn't be put back, AND I was standing on the bathroom counter in SOCKS...

"Sweetie, if mommy falls and is laying on the floor bleeding, pick up the phone and dial 9-1-1." Sometimes WE are THAT family. ;)

Oh Mercy, that is beautiful. I love how crazy-funky but still really classy that frame is. Wow!

I love that Nester, and you make me chuckle - lots!

When I first saw this I was like huh? But it really does look cool. Great job and the idea of you taking the picture and trying to not kill yourself in the process made me giggle. :p

I have seen that done before, but the mirror was not nearly as nice as the one you used, but it was more expensive.. Go figure! Looks great!

The mirror looks great, but I am impressed with the rest of the bathroom. I would never take a pic of my bathroom, unless I cleaned it for like an hour before hand.

I'm going to look into this option for our boring master bath mirror too. What a great idea.
Did you repaint your light fixtures or were they that color already. We have one huge silver light and I'd love to repaint it but I'm nervous.

Very nice! I have the same gigantic wall mirror. I want to trim it out with those peel and stick mirror trim kits at Home Depot and I think if I find a mirror like that it will look so much better.

That is a really neat idea! It turned out great! Now, I'm thinking that if I try something like that, I might just make it easier (lighter, easier to handle, etc.) on myself and simply hang an empty frame over the mirror - would still look like a mirror inside, right? Hmmm...now I'm thinking about that.

Love your projects and love how you managed to get the pic without yourself - LOL!!

Just beautiful!!! I especially love how you hung it and disguised the wire. I think I would try hanging an empty frame, for a similar effect. Your bath looks gorgeous, though!!! Blessings!

This is a great idea. It creates depth as well as the obvious interest.
I think I will try this in my living room. I have a mirror on either side of a large painting. I think the effect will be great. Thanks so much for posting this! Take care

Beautiful! Perhaps when I get a large mirrored bathroom, I'll remember this. (But my brain works a lot like a colander holding water so it might be a long shot.) ;)

What a wonderful idea! I think the layering of the mirrors really adds dimension to the room, not to mention personality!

It looks great! I think my master bathroom is exactly like yours! I have the same mirror, vanity, bathtub, window, and door in the same place!
