Garage Sale Meal

In an effort to buy more used instead of more new (and just so you know, I've failed at this more than I've succeeded in the past two weeks, but I am trying!), I've been shopping from some garages.

I've had a lot of fun and I've had some great kitchen finds. Here's our favorite meal of the week!

New loaf pans for meatloaf to replace my old rusty ones: $.50 cents each:

An antique french fry cutter for a new family experiment: $1.50:

Experiment: successful!

A basket for my Artisan loaves of bread: $.50 cents

(Let me just say, thank you to all those who told me about this easy Artisan 5 minutes a day recipe on this post. I can't wait to try all the other recipes!)

A White Mountain Electric Ice Cream Maker, $7:
(Retail $199!)

Homemade Butterfinger ice cream? Worth it's weight in gold.

First, I used that french fry maker when I was a kid. Brings back many memories - arm breaking memories. Try cutting enough fries to feed 8, especially since most of them are very hungry boys.

Secondly, I read your story about changing the name of your blog and found that you daughter wanted to stick a "mouse mattress" on something. Try coming home from a basketball game and finding 30 of those "mattresses" stuck on the front of your house and a car that we borrowed. Not fun getting it off, let me tell you. The adhesive does NOT come off easily.

Yes, we have THAT house too. We are a "happy" family of 15. Whoa! Who typed that in public!

What great finds! I haven't been garage sale-ing in years. I need to get out there and see what bargain beauties there are that I can't live without!

I'm jealous of the french fry slicer. Home made fries are so much better than frozen ones.
I'm going to be on the lookout this summer for an ice cream maker and a popcorn popper while I'm garage saling.
I have and use an old set of corelle dishes from the 70s. ( I think the pattern was called crazy daisy.) It's always fun to find new pieces to the set at garage sales.
I'm on my way to check out the bread post. My bread making attempts have been underwhelming. You are obviously a better cook than I am.

That was an envy-inducing post. What bargains you find! Wow! I'm checking the artisan book out at the library. It sounds like a keeper.

oh friend - you know that this is one of my favorite topics. :)

I love homemade fries, but I tell you...get out that food processor. It will cut five pounds in minutes. :)

I haven't garage shopped in ages. Looks like you got quite a big booty! That didn't come out right; you know what I mean.. your garage shopping trips look successful and fun. I might have to stop by a local garage soon to see what's for sale:)

Oooh, that garage sale link up thing looks perfect! I was hoping someone would start that, since I'm a regular at posting my finds. I'm glad there are others out there. So far, I've only spent $. 35!! so it's hard to get excited about some cheap McDonald's toys and a tshirt! Good job on the stuff. I grew up with a french fry maker like that. We made them often!

I love all your kitchen finds! Those are great, esp. that french fry maker. I do oven fries a lot at our house, to save on the calories. But, there is nothing like homemade fries. My mom made them for us growing up all the time.

In my reader, there was a flat-belly ad immediately below the ice cream. LOL! That all looked very good.

Now those are some great finds. Just think of the history behind them. That's the best part of buying used "treasures". And I love how you threw in the pictures of the goodies you made with your new finds!
