THAT Family Tree Society

I'm starting a club.
I feel like a 10 year old girl making friendship bracelets!

Want one?

One of the things I love most about blogging are meeting those other families. . . you know the ones!

Nearly every day, I have an email or a comment saying, "Us, too!  We are THAT family, too!"
It does my heart good to read that I am not alone.

I smile at your disastrous stories and laugh at your embarrassing moments.

Because if anyone understands, it's THAT family.

You know what it's like to go to the swimming pool and see toothpaste smeared in your toddler's hair because she brushes her hair with her toothbrush. You've taken your son to the dentist to have his first cavity filled, only to have him tell you on the way home, that something doesn't feel right. You aren't even surprised when he tells you he didn't say anything to the Dentist because, "I didn't want to overwork him."

Every time I read one of your stories, I feel connected, even related to you, like your my long lost cousin, twice removed.

Only I've never met you and you'd never give me a kidney.

Yeah, except for that.

I thought it would be fun to have a little society for us!  You can grab a button for your page and join the club where the perks are few and the benefits are slim.

If you decide to join in, share your THAT family stories with me (email kristenwrites@yahoo.com) sometime or send me the link to a post you've already done.  I will highlight a couple of random club member's blogs and stories every month! (You only need to send me one story, old or new). You can also just add the button to your page because in your heart, you can relate!

Oh, and we need a motto for THAT Family Tree Society: Where Not Every Branch Forks.

So, grab a button and come back for my best THAT family post.  I'm reposting "The Super Glue Incident" on Sunday to give you a prime example of why we are THAT family!

In an effort to highlight and link to your THAT family post, please answer the following questions when you have a chance.  I will RANDOMLY choose one blog post each Sunday to share with my readers, until I don’t have any more!-EMAIL me these answers:
1.    Tell us a little about your blog (name/reason why you blog):
2.    How long have you blogging?
3.    How would you define THAT family?
4.    When did you discover you were a part of THAT family?
5.    Where can we find your blog?

I was wondering what kind of magic you were working up with the button I noticed a couple of days ago! This'll be fun!

Kristen, your blog makes me feel so much better. I am not alone.

I think every family has "THAT family moments." When I had only one child, they didn't happen as often, but since the birth of my youngest, they seem to be occurring with much greater frequency. So, count me in.

I'm so putting it on my page! :D

You're so darlin'.
What a fantastic idea, love it.
I have many of those stories. Once my blog overhaul is done I will definitely add one of those adorable buttons.

The super glue story is one of my favorites of yours. I was a newbie still lurking, not blogging yet, when I read that one. This sounds like a ton of fun... I have many THAT family moments... which one shall I choose?
Great idea!!

I am in too! I have copied the button and pasted it to my blog! Great idea - now the hard part - putting a story together.

Oh yeah! I snagged that button. In my family there really is a branch that doesn't fork.

I am going to add the button. I am new to the blogging world, but am already addicted to yours. Thanks for sharing all your stories!

Hmm...I am going to have to dig a little for some THAT family episodes...my life is tame in comparison to your's!

Love your site. We are not quite as That family as your family, yet. My kids are still young :-) Keep up the fun writing!!

Now THAT is a great idea!!! I'll have to think about a THAT family story. When I come up with a good one, you'll be the first to know!

Alexia said...

I love the button - it's on my site! I don't have too many stories right now bc my boys are still fairly young, but I know that I'll become just like THAT family soon. I can tell.

Alicia said...

Thank you, Kristen!! Finally...some sort of support group.

Caution/Lisa said...

Yes! The trick is picking just which story to tell. There are, unfortunately, many.

GOT IT, of course!

I don't know what stories I'll have to share THAT are as funny or well shared as yours but I will enjoy reading more for sure!

Michelle said...

Oh yippee! A club! Just put it up on my side bar
Thanks

I can relate :) And love the idea of a "club" (been lurking for a while...you brought me out of the woodwork with this ;) )

I love the idea of a club. I have never posted a comment, but enjoy your blog! It is hilarious. My daughter is still fairly young, but I'm sure I can find a story to send you to show we are THAT family!

I'm in. You must have known, somewhere in your heart, that yesterday bought me admssion into those ranks.

Go here (http://preteenstoddlersandnewbornsohmy.blogspot.com/2008/07/best-day-ever.html) to read about it and please, please forgive my potty mouth. I'm trying to swear, instead of eat, when I'm stressed. One might arugue that prayer would be more effective.

Anonymous said...

Okay, I read everyday...mostly so I know that we are not alone.

But now I have to comment.

Totally taking that button....cause we are definitely THAT family too!

Anonymous said...

Oh, I am so ready for this! I have been meaning to post the story on my blog, well, since March!

Robin said...

I want to be in the club! I can't write stories like you - but I can read everyone else's!

Luke Holzmann said...

I would love to join! (Can I get the bracelet too?)

I'll add it to my personal blog, and when the kids finally show up and doing THOSE kinds of things, I'll write some.

Until that time, I can merely "relate in my heart".

Love the button and joined the family tree group. I already posted it proudly on my blog! The first post that came to my mind about being THAT family was http://tuttlefamilyadventures.blogspot.com/2007/04/busy-mom-blunder.html and no really that is not a picture of my real legs because that would just be even to much for THAT family. Enjoy! and thanks for giving us all a good remminder that it is actually okay to be part of a dysfunctional group!!

Too funny!

I think perhaps every family is 'that' family at some point. :)

Luckily we haven't had any 'that family' moments in a few days.... it's a miracle! *grin*

Yea, I keep thinking that we are somehow related. Here's my contribution:

I love this and am so joining. I wrote something that qualifies and will send you the link although you already know the story and can I just say that I cannot for the life of me remember that story right now as I am typing about it? NO Clue...but I know that I have one and my memory will be jogged by visiting past posts. Yay, I'm "That Blond" the one who pushed out all her brain cells with her children.

my post is finally up! c'om over and have a read!

I don't remember seeing these questions or answering them the first time. So I'll do this now.

The name of my blog is "My Life as a Mother, Wife, and Woman." My blog is basically an outlet for me and is also used to keep distant family and friends updated. I've been blogging for a year now. My definition of THAT family is....well, THAT family. The one that is always filled with chaos and oftentimes disorder. And if something unlucky or unfortunate is going to happen, it's going to happen to THAT family. I discovered I was a part of THAT family the day I was feeding one baby and rocking another one to sleep with my foot while supper was burning on the stove. Or maybe it was the day I went to work and once there I realized that I had forgotten to brush my hair and still had on my pajama top. Or maybe it was the day I stared at my daughter for what seemed like hours, desperately trying to remember her name. Because you know there are so many of them. Then there was that week when I lost my purse, cell phone, keys and wallet 7 times--in one week.

You can find my blog at www.mylifeasamotherwifeandwoman.blogspot.com
