Sincerely 'Fro Me to You-My Jane Fonda Moment

Welcome to this fun little weekly carnival of memories!  If you want to link up, you can read the guidelines here.

The last few weeks, I have played it safe with my ‘Fro posts. I’m not ashamed to reveal my overly permed hair or my scary polyester attire, I just wanted to give you a break.

From all the laughter.  And the mocking.

But I’m bringing back the smiles.  Just for you. Yes, I’m talking to you.  I know you’ve had a rough week.  I know you need a quiet moment to get away from the kids and laugh.  From the belly.

And so, I’m putting away my pride and I’m doing this just for you.  Because I care.

My Jane Fonda moment, sincerely ‘fro me.

I have no idea why I was dressed like this.  It wasn’t a costume party. I think that would make this easier to swallow.

Oh no, I owned that getup and wore it every Saturday morning to watch televised gymnastics. I had an unnatural desire to be an Olympic gymnast.

I think my leg warmers were in the washer.  Too bad because they just made this outfit even more frightening.

I was in a gymnastics class as a young girl, but my dream was short-lived due to finances.  So, once I got into high school, I paid for lessons with my own money.  Yes, I was the big girl in the little girl class.

Sad, but true.  Even worse?  I wore this outfit!

Oh.  And I permed my hair, just for you.

I LOVE that outfit. I think I had a similar one back when my grandmother dragged me to Bally's because she said I was getting porky. Gotta love Grandma.

You, Kristen, are bringing sexy back, baby. You alone. Not Justin Timberlake....he's got nothing on you. Nothing.

I must say from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!

LOVE it. I so needed that today.

And, might I say, I think you rocked that look. Rocked. it.

Thanks for sharing. And for making me smile on a day when I really did need it the most!

That is AWESOME! Really, I love that you wore that and it wasn't a costume. Thanks for making us smile. You're the best!

That is brilliant! Love it.

If only I were brave enough to post one of my similar pictures. Could I? Well, the better question is SHOULD I? And the answer to that is a resounding NO!

Unlike you, the only thing I would have rocked in my outfit, is the chair my mother was nursing my little sister in, at the time.

Oh, holy spandex.

You did indeed induce a very un-feminine belly laugh.

I bet you also wore that outfit while you tried to recreate the moves from Dirty Dancing, didn't you.

Hey, I think I saw you on Soul Train in the 80s. I snuck out of bed to watch it late at night because you were on past my bedtime.

For your daily dose of vintage goodness & a bit of silliness, stop by Confessions of an Apron Queen

I really truly did laugh out loud (which is why I just spelled it instead of the LOL). And I suddenly remembered how much I LOVED those pantyhose that were shimmery. I remember being disappointed if I got some, thinking they'd be shiny, and then put them on to see that they were only slightly shiny. Those you have on were perfect. Super shimmery.

Oh, I needed that! Thank you, thank you!

I'm not sure I could have handled the leg warmers though. I fell on the floor as it was.

Hilarious! Thank God I don't have any photos of when I was young...they got lost along the way somewhere...

But I was a total dork and VERY uncool. At least you were with the times! Thanks for the laugh :)

Oh and the country blue bow's on the mantel are a real time revealer!
Boy those tights were shiny. I always wanted to dance but was never enrolled. Thanks for sharing.

I can not be happier that you shared that!!! I am so impressed with your true friendship to reveal such a deep dark secret. But if you think about it, you were probably totally cool at the time, that was the style.

Janel@Dandelion Dayz said...

Oh, that was so awesome! You look great in that outfit, though. Your arms are very fit!

Thanks Kristin for sharing that. Classic!

I have no words...and I've already had several cups of coffee. Yet, I am speechless. You certainly are a brave woman for putting that out there. Makes me want to be just like you when I grow up, except without all the spandex. :)

Sandra said...

We all want to be something when we grow up. Not all of us dress the part. Thanks for sharing!

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I wore THAT outfit (in purple) to aerobics class. In college. With legwarmers. My hair was permed. I feel your pain.

TJ said...

I remember that being the coolest look! I wanted to wear an outfit like that when I was Sweatin to the Oldies with Richard Simmons!

blessedwith5 said...

I too owned leg warmers - not the Jane Fonda outfit though! I too had the "Fro" that wasn't supposed to be a fro, but hair like Stephanie on Heart to Heart. Big OOOPPPSSS there!

Karen said...

That is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. You must have a great self-esteem - posting these fabulous pics of yourself on the worldwide web!

Pleasing Procrasinator said...

BAWHAHAHA!!! This is one of the greatest posts ever.
Jane Fonda had nothing on you!!

Heather said...

My, what.. um... shiny... legs you have! That is too funny! I used to have an outfit like that with a white and purple striped sweater to go with it AND white and purple striped leg warmers! I'm so glad I don't know where those pictures are. :)

Thanks for the laugh!! I love Thursdays and always look forward to what you're going to post!

MoziEsmé said...

You look beautiful! This was one of those outfits I always wanted to own but unfortunately (fortunately) never did! I loved gymnastics and pretended I could be good at it, but was never motivated enough to pay for lessons - good for you!

I think we can all dig up pictures of us with this look. I am going to dig around now for some pictures, although I did post one of me marching in Sea Cadets as a kid, sailor hat and all. I know I have that readily available to repost. Thanks for sharing!

Wow. That's all I can say. Thanks for the laugh! I'm sure I had similar outfits, but hopefully nobody has a picture of me in them!

Oh, my! I was a gymnast wannabe, too. I also had a pair of neon blue parachute pants with a little bag you could stuff them into and tie the top.

And the perms, yes, the perms. Good times.

I laughed till I cried. I had such a similar stunning outfit! And I too was a district level gymnast and then swept up in the Jane Fonda Era! Oh goodness.. I am not sure that there are any photos left to document that experience!
