A Good Ol' Fashioned Texas Recovery

I had no plans to post an update to my update on the medical procedure I had yesterday morning.

But. Sometimes I just need to share.

I've got all this free time on my hands, not to mention all the brownies and Mr. Mom in the kitchen. I may just quit may day job.

Last night, I felt a little achy. Do you know what I wanted more than sweet tea?

This.

Well. Who knew it would be forbidden after a little ablation? I cannot soak in my tub for two weeks. Fourteen days. That's 336 hours of missed bath time. (I know this because the man who is doing my job, put a calculator on my dinner tray. Oh yes, he is that good.)

I can only take showers. I do not like showers.

As I was in the middle of a very long complaining rant -- we lost our electricity.

I couldn't continue. Mainly because it was very dark and this was fun and scary to my UNDER 9 YEARS of AGE audience. And I thought they cared.

My hubby came in with very bad news. "Our air conditioner just died."

Now, we live in Texas, where the air is humid and sticky year-round. My hubby might as well said, "Besides spending a lot of money, we will all be dead in the morning."

Yes, because humidity can kill, my friends.

So. I drug my sore body out of bed and threw some stuff together and we went to my parents house. At dark thirty. The day I had my medical procedure.

And can I just add that waking up a toddler, moving her to a playpen and asking her to go night-night in her PaPa's home office, is just delightful?

I'm back home now. We're waiting on the AC guy to come and take all our money. There's a slight breeze (well, by faith, I'm calling it a breeze). But I'm sticky and a little hot.

And you know what sounds divine?

A shower.

God moves in mysterious ways, dear ones.

Glad to see you are home and resting. And sorry to hear about the A/C. I hope it doesn't cost too much money to fix.
Enjoy that sweet tea - its my favorite and it can't be found up here in the north!

Good Morning, my darling friend.

Isn't it amazing how life humbles us?

I'm sorry you had to make haste to your parents house in the middle of the night, no other words but, "that sucks" do I have to offer...

Wish I was there, so your hubby can cook for me, I mean, so I can hold your hand and tell you,"It'll be okay."

Tell that repair man that a deranged psychopath in California will come stalk his arse if he takes all your money...You need that money so we can plan a trip and meet and drink copious amounts of sweet tea on a porch swing!

How did people servive pre airconditioning? It ranks right up there with oxygen in my book!

Rest and get well!

Alrighty then, I will not tell you how we had the HEAT on last night (cuz it's COLD here) and how we nearly drown cuz it rained so hard - but thankfully we missed the SNOW they were predicting for the weekend.

I hate baths. Am I banned from here yet? I keep waiting for you to wonk me over the head. LOL

Glad you are back home....I think??? Is that the right answer?

Oh, my... so sorry! But, I'm glad you're home and resting some what comfortably. Not sure where you are (I'm in the Austin area) and it's fairly cool here today with a pretty good breeze.

After I had my hysterectomy, I sneezed hard. Afterward, I said (sarcastically through the pain), "Well at least it's not the hiccups!" Then, took a drink of water and immediately began to choke (yes, that involved painful coughing) and then promptly developed a case of the hiccups that seemed to last forever.

I DO believe that God is NOT a cruel God. But I do have to wonder about His sense of humor sometimes!

Rest up! Dawn

I hear ya, sista! Our AC blew up (yes folks...blew up and caught on fire) last Saturday and will not be replaced with a new unit until Tuesday. It's 80 some odd degrees here in SC!!! What's it gonna cost us??? An UNGODLY amount of money!! You would just die if I told you.

Sorry about the move, glad you are cooling off with a shower, and here's hoping for some good rest. Good luck with the AC.

I FEEL your pain, kind of. A week after my third child was born our AC broke.. it was almost 100 degrees in late July in MD and HUMID and we suffered for 3 days with no AC. My then 18 month old would lay in her bed in nothing but a diaper, dripping in sweat and moan all night long. I hope you get your AC soon.

Kristen, I bet People think you make this stuff up!!!!!! ITS ALL TRUE. MOM

Man that sounds like torture! Hope it's all fixed soon. You and the AC!

Vivian M said...

Oh dear...hope the AC repair does not cost too much. I used to live in Florida, so I totally understand how miserable heat and humidity can be. Feel better soon, and enjoy those showers!

You have got to be miserable. Hopefully the air conditioning will be up and running soon. If not by now.

When it rains it pours...

Keep swimming..or showering whatevers allowed right now!

Just think of it this way, you have a a/c to pay for, and money to pay for it...that's not always the case everywhere else.

What a day you had.

Now...Texas heat (I'm living near Dallas right now) is dry compaired to Louisiana heat! It's worse there. Trust me...I sent all last summer in it. This heat is nice.

SCARY! Isn't it. :)

I love living in Texas October-April. May-September is the pits, and without an air conditioner? Unbearable.

So sorry it hasn't been a perfect leisurely recovery, but glad you're recovering.

Oh what a mess, and right after a medical procedure. Take care, rest up. So sorry about the bath thing!

Bless your sweet hot and tired heart. You are precious. (You know, I never use to say/write things like that or refer to someone other than babies as precious until I moved to Texas and then SC). Before I offer my sympathy, I have to tell you how much I love your writing style. You are so funny. You put so much wit and humor in your posts, but you do so without over doing it and without being overly wordy. I love it.

That said, I hope you get to feeling better. Not a good recovery...funny how God made that shower seem good huh? Your husband is doing an awesome job.

Blessings, Angela

Take it easy and getter better soon. My parents live in Texas too and we live in Florida so I understand the sticky feeling. Hope your air is fixed by now. It never seems to go out at a convenient time but isn't that how it always is.

Wow, how is it that even in pain and post op, your blog still manages to brighten my day. Feel Better soon, I'm with you on the tub baths...I heart me tub baths!

Sounds like no need for the HEATing pad? The good Lord, He does provide.

I think you might get a little more mileage out of this fortuitous upheaval.

Little setback in your recovery? Better take it easy for a few more days than prescribed.....

You know, I had surgery at the beginning of April to remove the tumor that I found. You are very blessed to even take a shower!! I couldn't even do that until the site stopped draining!! Which was really only 2 days, but still. Also, you must live in a warm part of Texas. It was cool and windy here!!! Take care of yourself!! Heal quickly!

Feel better!

I think it's cool that your mom reads your blog. Mine does too!

Glad you had an optional location to cool off. Thank God for parents, huh?

Rats on a stick! That's totally just not fair - reminds me of when I was about 10 & our electricity was out for a few days. This also meant no water since we had a cistern (Kinda like a huge well made of concrete... and instead of having natural ground water, we always had to have city water hauled out).

Anyway, though I'm glad you're recovering and in pretty good spirits, I hate it for you that you're not really resting comfortably. Maybe you can find someone with a water bed and still get that nice relaxing sensation of resting in the water[bed]. I know waterbeds aren't that common anymore, so that idea may not work out... If not, you should get a special trip to the spa! Get a massage and get your nails & toes done!

Oh, I really hope things get better for you... You're definitely in my thoughts and prayers. And if I think of anything else that could help take the place of those wonderful baths (yeah right! I doubt much will even come close... *sigh*) I'll sure let you know. Hope you have a speedy recovery! Much love to you & yours, take care and God Bless!

Poor Kristen. God's mysterious ways can be tough on a body.

Hope you heal speedy quick, but that you get to keep laying around and milking it. Cause mom's need to milk as much as we are milked ourselves.

Be blessed!

Just think how wonderful a bath you will have in 14 days!

Aaack! No soaking in a bath and the AC out as you head into May in South Texas!!!! Not Good! Hope things are improving, at least the shower sounds better now, especially a nice cool shower. Silver lining.

So glad to hear that you are recovering well. Sorry about that bath thing, and that no one told you so you could mentally prepare!
PA isn't hot enough for A/C yet, but I sure hope your A/C man gets that up and running quickly!
Sit back and have another glass of sweet tea ;-)

Lisa said...

Good grief!!! But you always have good stuff to blog about don't you? Life provides you so much material. Get better soon, and happy blogging

God speed on your recovery. And I am SO with you on the bath thing. I take baths instead of showers most of the time. Sometimes when I watch these real estate shows on TV and they show a house without a bathtub I think to myself "WTF! How can you live without a bath??!! Great blog.

Christie O. said...

oh no! what a terrible coincidence your a/c tragedy!

i hear you on the humidity. i live in florida and without a/c here --one could not survive. not even for a few minutes. it's that sticky and heavy and gross.

Anyway--hope you're cooling off by now!

Ugh! I feel your pain. Our air conditioner broke in June... days after I brought our first born home from the hospital. We lived in Frisco, outside of Dallas. But our God is a Miracle Man... my husband worked for Lennox, the air conditioning people. Still, that one day without AC was miserable. That firstborn is reading over my shoulder right now and just corrected my spelling of "with out" by reminding me, "Isn't 'without' a compound word? Then why do you have it separated." Smart boy. Maybe he'll be an editor some day.

Oh my gosh, your weekend was just awful! I am so sorry!

Amanda said...

Oh no -- there's never ever a good time to lose air conditioning in TX. Maybe I should take a big ol' glass of sweet tea out to my unit. We need to be friends.

Amanda said...

Oh, and glad your procedure went well. Is it obvious that my priorities are totally out of whack?

Unknown said...

I am SO with you on that one. I would much rather take a bath than a shower, even in the dead of summer.

And man. Good luck on the AC thing. Although I'm sure all your money is gone by the time I have read this.
