WFMW: Bulk Blogging

I like to do things in bulk. I like to do one shopping trip for the week, JUST ONE. I do not like to go back to the store for two items! I like to clean the whole house at one time (but I don't, of course, who has the time?) I like bulk - it's usually cheaper too.

[warning: rabbit trail] My hubby and I had a job once where we got paid ONCE a month. We paid all of our bills and grocery shopped ONE time. It was so hard, but good for us to learn to budget.

I find that writing in bulk is also the most comfortable way for me to sit down and blog. I have two mornings during the school year and one during the summer that I dedicate to writing time. I write several posts in one sitting. If this isn't possible (and let's face it, even with the best laid plans, life happens), then I take one evening away from the house to write.

I publish mostly every day. I always have posts in my queue. I love this because I don't always know how I feel about something until I write it. This gives my words time to marinate. It also gives me time to edit.

Bulk blogging works for me!

Thank you for joining me for WFMW! {You can read the guidelines here.} Have a Works-For-Me Wednesday tip you'd like to share? I'd love for you to join us!

Please mark your calendar for a special (and popular!) Themed Summer Edition: "Mom, I'm Bored!" in TWO weeks!

That is a fantastic tip! Probably one of my fave so far! I like using Live Writer b/c you can schedule your writing and play with photos at the same time!

Great tip!

Blessings to you,

I would love to get ahead a wk or two. Especially with cooking and baking, it takes so much time.
Thanks so much for hosting!

Tuesdays and Fridays that is all I do too. I dabble a bit Wednesday and Thursday but then I make sure to take the weekend and Monday (hubbys day off) off. And I love doing it that way for all the same reasons as you listed. Plus giving blogging boundaries means it doesn't have a chance to take over.

When I can, this is what I *try* to do. I'm not always successful, but it certainly feels great on the occasion when I have a couple posts waiting. Now, if only I had more time so I could get ahead consistently. :) It's a great idea to set aside time to write, and I certainly like the idea of having more time to think about a post!

I need to do this, but first I need to know how to write a post in less than 2 hours! I have major issues. LOL!

That's such a great idea. I'd love to be ahead a little on my posts. I'm going to have to try to figure out how to do all the tech part of it.

I agree -- it's a good idea to write many posts at once. Also good to let the words "marinate" for a while. If I publish a post right after I write it, I find that I end up editing 5 times after it's published as I think of something new to add or decide I don't quite like something. Better to let it "marinate."

This is such a great tip, and something that after all this time of blogging, I'm finally getting the hang of!
For the past few Sunday's I've been committing to doing more work on Saturday so that I have to do very little on Sunday and I can actually enjoy and rest on Sunday. Part of that has included taking a few hours in the afternoon to let the kids play outside while I catch up on my Google Reader and write some blog posts. (None of that blog maintenance, upgrading plugin WORK type stuff, just the fun stuff, the stuff I enjoy.)
Since I still write several posts throughout the week as the mood strikes, for the first time ever I have actually been able to ACCRUE a queue of available posts. I've never been here before - but you're right! It feels so good! =)

This is a great idea and something I have been giving some thought to for a while. I would love to find a way to carve out some uninterrupted time for bulk blogging. I have lots of ideas queued up, just not the time to act on them. I need to take a fresh look at my schedule and see if there is a way to implement this idea!

I have gotten in the habit of bulk blogging more and more lately, so I was glad to hear you do it too! I wondered if it'd keep working or not! :) It does work at keeping me off the comp so much in my day :) Except to occasionally check my comments (b/c I love my comments!)

How often do you check/respond to comments?

Thanks for letting me link up! :-)

I LOVE your idea! And I really am trying to do it...I'm so new at all of this, that my learning curve is so big sometimes, that some of those school mornings get taken up with learning, instead of writing. But, surely at some point I will have learned everything, right? :-)

Have I said lately how much I LOVE your blog?? Love the things you write about, and love your style! Thank you for blessing me so many, many times! God sure is using that little computer keyboard of yours. Okay, and you, too :-)

I do the same thing. I don't do well trying to think of something to write at the last minute. I like to publish every week day, so having several posts to choose from is nice.
Great tip!

I try to do the same thing, but I do like to spend just 5-10 minutes each morning reviewing posts and linking up to other great sites. After working on my own I cruise some fabulous blogs (including yours) jotting down notes for future post ideas.

I love it when I can do that. But more often than not, I'm lucky to get one at a time done.

But I agree, even then, it's a good idea to let a post sit for a time before publishing it. I've caught a ton of mistakes that way.

Makes me wonder, though, how many more I still miss! Lol!

I messed up my first try at posting my link, it's the first of "The Zucchini Project" links...I corrected, but don't know if there's a way to delete the wrong one...sorry...getting my feet wet at WFMW.

Bulk shopping works great in our house, I've never thought about bulk blogging! I don't know if I'm organized enough!

Blessings!

Wow, Kristen, you are *so* organized. I'm at HEB about 5 days a week.:) And, typically, I write my posts as you see them. My WFMW was written on Monday and I felt like I had REALLY accomplished something! I think I need lessons from you!

I love bulk blogging to! When I'm on a roll, I start a bunch of posts, and then as you say, there is time to edit, to let the topic marinate. :-) I'm the same with my design work. I like to set aside time to just work on design jobs. I get in the zone, and just hammer them out. It is much more time efficient too!

When I first started writing I thought I HAD to write daily for it to be fresh, but moving over to a bulk writing system worked so much better for me. I wrote when I was inspired and it still came across fresh once published. Also great to have something there waiting to publish on those not-so-inspiring days. ;-) Great tip!

Great tip! I'm gonna try it. I think it'll help a lot!

I am a bulk blogger too! :)

While my entry isn't typical I do so hope that it inspires.

Stop by and celebrate with me. I am hosting a giveaway.

Thank you for hosting a great party.

I try to do this sometimes. My problem is I am not disciplined enough to use any of my morning or evening "scheduled" slots as I propose to meet the needs and desires of each of my roles in life. Still working on it... Any tips for that?

All I know is that writing in bulk or each day, this blogging thing is so addictive, I have to box it up somehow... ;)Thanks for your wonderful blog -- even if it makes me want to spend even MORE time on the computer.

We get paid in the same way. Once a month. I prefer it actually because it is easier, but budgeting is not so fun. I totally agree with posting in bulk. I love having my posts scheduled.

This is my first time playing, Works for Me Wednesday! I am so excited. I, too, try really hard to write several posts at once. In fact, Monday is pretty much my blogging day. :-)

I need to do more of this!

My husband currently gets paid once a month. This has worked out well for us as well, and really taught us to budget. I am like you I like to do things in bulk, I do one major grocery shopping trip at the beginning of the month, and just head back to the store once a week for small items like milk or eggs.

I enjoy bulk blogging as well when I remember and when I can. Thanks for this tip!

Great idea! I try to keep a few drafts going at all times. Even if I don't have time to write it all out, I'll type up a one sentence summary and save it as a draft.

Is there anyway to alphetize this list. I am trying to find a couple blogs I was looking at yesterday, but the list has gotten so big.

I want to add my blog's post to Mr. Linky, but I can't find where to do it! Is it too late in the morning? (9:30 PDT) I wanted to get my morning chores done before I got distracted with the Internet...

Also, I do the same thing--bulk blogging! It's going to be a must when we move and have no Internet!

Lisa said...

Sorry! I found the link. :)

I do this every once in a while and I know it works!!! After a lull last month with very few posts, I have done the bulk-prep method and posted regularly over the last two weeks. I need to put the time in my schedule and make it a HABIT!!! Blessings!

Kristen said...

Anonymous-no there isn't a way to categorize or alphabetize the links-just random. Sorry!
