What Starts with an H, Ends with a Y? {Winners}

Before I tell you who won some amazing jewelry gift certificates from The Vintage Pearl, I thought I'd share a riddle.

Q: What's red and scary-looking on your son's arm and causes Mom to frantically search Google for the symptoms of a rare disease?

Hint: It starts with a H and ends with an Y

A: Hickey

(Oh yes, and I actually added this to my list of things I never thought I'd say: "We do not suck on our skin."

And now...the reason you're reading this post: winners (drawn by the Random Generator)

At church one day my boys were given some toys that had suction cups on the bottoms. They thought it was funny to stick them to their bodies. I didn't think it was funny at all when I discovered hickies all over their faces!

That's hilarious! Just last fall my 11 year old daughter had a nasty bruise on her inner thigh. We questioned her for days about it--how did you get it? What did you bump into? But she wouldn't tell us. Finally one day she confessed that a few days earlier she had gotten in trouble (by me) about something and was so angry at herself that she bit herself really hard. Isn't that crazy?! I'm glad she told us--we've laughed about it ever since.

My daughter, now 12, did this a few years ago to her upper arm...and her sister, age 2 at the time, saw her and did it also. Long story short they walked around for a few days looking like they had hickeys all over their arms...interesting looks we got....

I think all my children have done that at one time or another. The youngest did it recently with a gadget that suctions the air out of a drink bottle. Here are the results if you want a laugh: http://itwasbroughtonbylove.blogspot.com/2009/10/face-value.html

Congratulations to the winners!!

I am so excited that I won - now I have to actually make a decision about what to get! So many beautiful pieces on The Vintage Pearl site. Thank you!!!

I've lost track of all the "we do not . . . " things I never thought I'd hear myself say, but "sucking on skin/biting yourself" is definitely among them.

Thanks again!

LOL that cracks me up!! Last night I stumbled on your blog and love it! I spent WAY to long looking around and reading all your projects (which I LOVE). I won't even tell you what time it was when I looked at the clock. Let's just say I was late for church :)
Great blog and looking forward to more!

That is just too funny! My brother had one of those dart guns with suctions on the end. He stuck it to his forehead (being funny) and it left a hickey mark right in the middle of his forehead.

I thought my 3 year old had a bad case of chapped lips, then I realized he has been sucking his bottom lip and has given himself a hickey below his bottom lip. Not chapped at all, just sucked like crazy. This is the same child that wrote on the TV screen with a piece of cheese today. That is why food stays in the kitchen.

My baby son gave his oldest sister a HUGE hickey on her cheek right under her eye. Needless to say, we were all embarrassed to be seen in public!

I wanted to blog about it, but didn't out of respect for her. She was pretty traumatized. I thought it was pretty funny. What kind of mama am I? I guess we're part of THAT family after all.

My son (9) has done this but I haven't told him it was a hickey. I just told him the technical terms of blood collecting at the surface when you pinch an area of skin. He likes the little popper hoppers attached to his chin. They make great hickey makers. lol

Yep! Said that myself. UGH... my DD sucked so hard she left huge, nasty hickeys on her arms. So embarrassing when she went to church and everyone asked her what happened. I'm feelin' ya.

Do you and I have the same son? LOL I've had very similar conversations with mine.

That's funny. My 6 year old daughter did that about two months ago. It was on her upper arm and I stared at it for a long time before I realised what she had done. We had to have the same conversation... kids. they do the darndest things! :)
