Well. That's Not Fun At All

[no laughing, chuckling or smiling allowed while reading this post.]

Do you know what's not fun?

Mattress shopping.

It ranks right there between shopping for a car transmission and someone to take out your gallbladder.

You know what else isn't fun?

Going to your in-law's farm (7 hours away) for three days and returning exhausted, only to discover your cat was locked in your daughter's room while you were gone.

THREE DAYS, y'all.

Not fun----
  • daughter's bed (used as a litter box)
  • a dehydrated, half-starved cat.
  • shopping for a mattress (but it's cheaper than carpet)
(um, found out why Sam's has good deals on mattresses...
because you are the delivery service)

Alrighty then, I think I'm done now.

[please note: the kitty was harmed in the making of this post, but appears to be all better now]

Are you smiling?

Every now and then I see your blog while checking others out and I thought I would see what you were about. All I can say is, well, that happened to us over Thanksgiving but for 5 days. I felt so bad for the cat. She has put back on the wieght and more... I had to lock the cat up in the basement for a week so she would remember where the litter box was. NOT FUN AT ALL. So I feel your pain.

Sorry for laughing, but we too have a cat who finds itself locked in rooms, for a time too long, with a mess left to clean.

How is your daughter enjoying the new mattress?

You just confirmed why we don't have a cat! Thank you! LOL!

What a bummer! I read this to my boyfriend (who I have been pestering for a kitty)and now he says "see that is why we don't need a kitty." Darn it.

At least the cat didn't use her toys/stuffed animals as the litter box as mine did when I was little (and it wasn't even locked in a room, he was just a jerk)

Poor kitty!! This is my worst nightmare! We are unlikely cat owners (he was a stray that showed up and adopted us as his family 3 yrs ago) and he still gets to go outside. He totally knows when we are packing to leave and tries to escape knowing he's going to be cooped up in the house up for days on end, so we end up locking him in one room or another while we are in and out loading the car, so he doesn't escape outside right before we leave him. I am so paranoid about forgetting him one of these times!!

Yes I'm smiling, but glad that kitty is ok. We had a cat that got locked in our neighbors travel trailer for a week! She lived thank goodness but yes we had to buy them a new mattress for their trailer. Pee-U!

Definitely smiling! More like cracking up! LOL!

Well I can say this....."we had not cat delima" BUT I know what you mean about shopping for a mattress. This is my 3rd night on my new pillow top. I have a bad back and it took me almost 2 months to decide on one. Mainly because I wanted to make sure it was going to do wonders for my back but secondly due to money! HOLY COW!!!

Sorry, I had to laugh - I've been there!

It's horrible, and shopping for mattresses is just painful. We decided to go buy us a new king size one about three years ago, so we laid on every one we could at the Ashley store and finally decided on one we loved.... and it was three grand! I about died, but it is a wonderful bed I will admit.

I really about died when our cat decided that a week after we got it decided to pee in it while we were in the shower. (my husband had just goje back to work after a month off for surgery, and I'd started a new job during that time so no one was home.) Lets just say that my husband was not a happy camper - thank goodness we had insurance on it and got a new one.

My cats like to open doors if they're closed. I can wake up in the mrning and have my towel pantry an dclosests open - but I do worry about them closing themselves in there.

Ooooooh, bummer! We had a similar thing happen a couple of months ago...but not for 3 days. It was just for 12 hours. What a mess! I'm glad your kitty is okay. Poor thing must have been frantic.

Samantha said...

oh man! We are looking for a new mattress.. but not for a cat! :)

Amy said...

I apologize, but I giggled out loud on this one... Somehow, I just could not keep a straight face.

Michelle said...

Poor thing!
(Um, that was for you AND the cat both.)

Here is to a better week!

Michelle @ Delicate Construction said...

Sounds like something that should have happened to us! It probably will some time in the future, and I agree, a mattress is much cheaper than carpet but no, not fun at all.

Poor kitty... glad he's ok...
Sorry about the mattress though... what a tough way to go.

Glad to hear the kitty is ok now & I hope you guys got a nice, new mattress. Best feeling ever is having one, though!! We got a new pillow-top a few months back....heavenly! But yes, the shopping was rather boring.

Now would be a great time to move home, relocate, immigrate... drive se7en hours to stay with your inlaws... Just get out of there!!!!

Our cat got locked in our car overnight once and it wasn't pretty. I'd like info about offering my Scriputure Inspired Quilted Art for one of your Give Aways. Thanks.

Totally laughing here in WV. Sorry. =)

TOOO funny - I once had a cat who leared how to open doors (the ones with the lever handles - jumping up and using his paws to pull the handle down) for once, that would of been useful, instead of annoying...I just started reading your blog! Very fun! Thanks!

Shelly Wildman said...

Soooo, was the new mattress for you or for your daughter? Just sayin' . . .

Tina said...

Oh crap :( (literally and figuratively, I suppose...lol)

Glad kitty is on the mend!

Kim said...

Thanks for a good chuckle! :)

I actaully miss having cats around.

Mattress shopping? Yeah....no thanks

see i'm a list girl...what tends to happen here, is i'll leave the window a crack open to air the place out...and then a breeze will slam the door...

so now my list reads,

-all trash and compost out
-food and water for cats
-camera and charger
-phone and charger
-prop ALL bedroom doors open....

so i that helps...

cat messes suck..i know we've had 3 cats....and the first time i got pregnant one knew before i did and started killing my living room carpet....she was angry!!! so we put in tiles...was better in long run..but SUCKED

I have to say that I'm cracking up that the ad that ran with this post on my google reader was for cat litter.

Sorry about the cat though, he must have been frantic when you got there.

All I'm saying is that it's a good thing PETA hasn't found out about this little incident. Not only would you need a new mattress, but then they'd be on your case. And NOBODY wants them on their case. (They're a wee bit strange, yes?)

When we were moving from one city to another, and selling our house, a realtor closed the door where we had the cat's litter box at...so she used the new sofa. not fun....sigh....I feel your pain...

Our kitty passed away last year after 14 years with us. (in retrospect, she was worth it...)

Casey said...

Oh no! That really stinks. Good luck kitty cat with your recovery. :)

Michelle said...

Definitely a THAT family moment! Sorry, glad the kitty is on the mend.

Jelli said...

Oh, poor kitty. I'm so glad it's better now.

Oh I am so happy the cat was ok. I bought a mattress from IKEA once. It was a disaster, try bringing a king size mattress home on the top of a small car in the freezing rain. Let me say, it took less than 10 minutes for a cop to pull us off the highway. =/

Lisa@BlessedwithGrace said...

Oh good gracious! That is a real bummer!! Thanks for keeping it real.

Harmony said...

This happened to me! We were gone for three days too and I made the mistake of leaving the windows open a bit in the bedrooms and left the doors open. The wind blowing through the window closed the door and my poor kitty was inside. Unfortunately, it was our carpet that didn't survive the ordeal (luckily, our cat did). I did have a nice surprise, when I ripped up the carpet, I found nice hardwood flooring underneath!

Not smiling . . . . . mouth agape.

My husband's family has one better about coming home to a smell after a two week vacation, but it's so gross I'm keeping it to myself :-)

Paula said...

Well that stinks! (literally!) Poor kitty and you for having to clean up and make a big purchase!

No, not smiling...plotting. we've had out mattress for so many years I'm embarrassed to admit it.

I'm thinking...drop cloth over the carpet, linens off the bed, two cats in the bedroom...a new Temper-pedic in my future. ;)

Y'all are so much fun.

What's bad is my daughter has a full sized bed. Mine is a queen. So, my evil plan didn't work.

plastic mattress covers on all mattresses for kids under age 10 and cats!

Chick Hatchers said...

When you returned and found your locked-up cat, did your cat look like my profile picture? LOL.

So sorry to hear about that, really. It would have really upset me to find my cat all starved and dehydrated. Oh, and the mattress all soiled and ruined. That too.

Oh a happy note - it's MUCH easier to mattress shop for a child than it is for an adult. Particularly the older you get. :D

LOL! I laugh only because I don't have a cat!

Oh goodness! I personally hate mattress shopping. But that would be an even more irritating reason to do it. lol
