The Best Things About Christmas Aren't Things

I love this time of year! I love to splash red and green all over my house. I love hunting down that one light that won't work.... hehe

But it's really not about the stockings hung with care:

(the real and the pretend ones)

Christmas isn't only about Santa, although we sure do love that jolly old guy:

(Yes, we still believe):

Our tree is carefully trimmed with beloved ornaments collected and displayed:

Simple touches make me smile:

But Christmas isn't about these things I love:

It's not about things at all.

(A precious gift from my Russian friends)

Love my Christmas 'things' but only because they hold so many memories of the parts of Christmas that are not things. Lovely post.

You are very right! Those things are lovely...beautiful pics btw! But they aren't what Christmas is all about! It's about our love for God and our family. It's good to stop and remind ourselves about the true meaning of Christmas!

SO true - thanks for sharing.

I love your Russian Nativity set - I have some Christmas russian doll sets but they are all santas, snowmen etc!

I am having a Nativity Set Blogging Carnival on 21 December on my blog and would love you to join in with your Russian set if you have the time (which you probably don't!)

Your house looks wonderful. I love the outline of your children with the stockings hung below.

Yes, thank you for the reminder. This is all about Jesus' birth. The rest is just for fun :-)

Lurker here. I loved this post very beautiful. I have to tell you your pictures are lovely and I might be crazy LOL. I had to enlarge the picture of your fireplace. It looked like there was a goat head coming out the fireplace LOL. I see it's just a pillow. Am I the only one that thought that or am I just CRAZY ;-)

Great home tour!! I always enjoy reading your blog, although I have never commented before. Then I saw the photo that made me de-lurk :)

I have a black hutch in my dining room that I've been wanting to update up with a color or pattern on the back surface. I really like the way yours looks! Can you tell me what you used... is it paper, fabric, or ?

Thanks for any details you can give me. I wish your family a very Merry Christmas.

Can I ask where you got those silhouettes done? I'd love to get some made for my mom, but I'd love a recommendation, so I can be sure they'd be done well. Thanks and merry Christmas!

Kristen said...

Hi Bonnie,
I actually made the silhouettes myself. It's very easy! I just took profile pictures of my kids, enlarged them to 8x10, cut out the faces and painted the BACK of the photos black.
I have a post about it under DIYP if you'd like to see pictures.
