The Annual Galveston SandCastle Competition is listed in the book, 1,000 Places to See Before You Die
We only have 999 things left.
This weekend we trekked down to the coast. It was our toddler's first visit to the beach (since she was a tiny baby).
Thousands of carvers etched hundreds of sculptures from sand. It was amazing:
We visited the sand carvings early in the day before the massive crowd was inebriated. It was fairly family-friendly:
My kids didn't understand several of the creations. I think that's a good thing. But I laughed at this one:
Of course, my favorites were the simple, beautiful castles:
It was hard to tell if our kids had a good time:
I'm going to go with "yes."
It was a fantastic family day. We left WHILE we were having fun, though. I tweeted several of the sandcastle and family pictures on Twitter. A couple of people wanted to know why I didn't include one of me in my bathing suit.
Cruel.
But I will throw this one in, it's even more embarrassing.
My hubby snapped a picture of me on our long ride home. I may have fallen asleep for a few minutes, but I certainly do not have my mouth open.
For more sincere 'fro's, go here.
(And there is absolutely no drool).

This must be paybacks for all those projects he's been doing for you.
Haha - we've all been there...it was just never caught on film!
It's not like you twittered a pic of him in his swimsuit or anything.
This is priceless. And would make a good 'Fro photo. :-)
LOL...awesome...
Love it! And love the fact that you posted that pic all the more! :-)
you rawk for posting that picture!! it gave me a giggle...I sleep with my mouth open too...oh and gasp..I have been known to snore!
Your bravery is astounding.
and I think you look adorable even like that!
Although you could have saved it for the FRO this thursday! I am praying for more participants...where have you all gone???
He's not driving while taking your pictures IS HE??
You know, you're kinda lucky. Not only do you have a hubs who understands (or at least goes along with) blogging, but he's helping and even providing you with bloggy material!
=)
That is spectacular. When you do something, you go all in, girl!
My dh would be on restriction if he did that to me. For weeks. That'd teach him! ;-)
Awesome! I am happy to see Galveston getting back into the tourist season. We used to go every summer and I loved it.
Cheers to you for being able to laugh at yourself. What mom hasn't knocked herself out after a long day out with the family? Thanks for sharing that with all us tired moms!
Oh and love the picture hehe
Your hair looks so cute!
Steph
Grrrlll, I can't BElieve you posted that picture of yourself! You ARE brave! :)
On the other hand, this is what I look like around 10am .. hehehehehe
Thanks for being a mom's poster child!! Is this picture copyrighted? hahahaha
This totally blows away my homecoming picture! ;)
Loving Octomom!
You were in the midst of one of those whiplashing sneezes right?! You know, you have to throw your head back and let it go....aaaaaaacccccccceeeeeeewwwww!
That is totally what I thought ;}
LOL! He better be careful! You know what they say about payback . . .
ROFL Jeanette's comment is hilarious! I totally do that all the time and even did that on the flight to our honeymoon! Hubs just let me stay like that and comments that I had my mouth gaping open after we arrived. Uh, thanks hubs for not nudging me to shift positions!
LOL! Being a mommy is hard work!
The octomom sculpture is hilarious!! And my husband would be in lots of trouble for taking a picture of me sleeping in the car...it's never pretty!
Oh my word...I wish I was in the car next to you driving by seeing this unfolding! I like your daughter's face back there "Dad...you are gonna be in trouble!" You do need a special pillow for the long rides though. You look very uncomfortable.
Blessings,
Marie

Amazing sandcastles!
I would prefer a pic of me sleeping any day to a pic of me in a bathing suit!!!
So are there any places in Ireland on your list?
Me again!
Looked up the index of the book on the Amazon site, and have found 2 within 2 miles of our cottage - Giants Causeway and the Bushmills Distillery. So when are you coming to visit?!
I've been following and enjoying your blog for a few weeks. Love your family sense of humor. =) It's always fun to be on 'this side' of the camera and catching others in all manner of poses. I guess we need to allow them some control of 'this side' on occasion. =)
That looks like such a lovely day! All I can say is: "What goes around comes around" - bide your time!!!
Wow - you are a forgiving and brave woman to put that photo up on the web. HAHAHAHA... it's actually cute. :-)
I had NO idea they did anything like that in Galveston... I'm going to have to check that out next year!
Oh, You MUST love him......how funny....we've never been to the event, but perhaps we should do as you did, and go before the bedlam sets in.......
Suzanne
OK, so that is too funny.....Bravo to you for being able to have fun in life and post that pic. Love it! I find it a gift/blessing when I don't take myself too seriously....
those sand artists are awesome!
I saw your tweets and was about to hop in the car cause i've ALWAYS wanted to go to that... but just enjoyed your pics of it. Haven't been to galv. since Ike. really, haven't been in way longer than that... but promised the kids we would go this summer! I've heard such sad stories... Is it ok???
Don't worry... you can't see the drool... too much!
That sounds like a neat day. I didn't know Galveston had a sand carving deal. Loved the picture of U - nice teeth!!!
that's the funniest thing I've seen all day. Thanks!
That's called being the tired Mama! I know I have been there...but luckily hubby has not been able to capture it on film! have a great day!
Haaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaha!!!
Thanks for the BIG laugh...you are awesome for sharing that pic!
LOL! I don't sleep like that of course not!
OMG that looks like fun (and, you don't have your mouth open... figment of our imagination!!)

Melissa
You are a brave woman to post a picture of yourself like that! Looks like you all had a great day.
Oh my goodness, my hubby would be in SO MUCH TROUBLE! LOL!
Those sand castles are cool. I'm glad eveyrone had a good time!
I really wanted to go to see the sand castles Saturday, but my son had a swim meet in the Woodlands. :-( It looks like it was fun. And those "castles" look so cool!
I never sleep in the car either...nope. Never.
Ok, seriously, you posed that picture, right? Just say - YES! Ha! Ha! That's hilarious. I have many pictures of my husband like that.
Looks like everyone had a good time!
God bless you and your realness!!! It blesses my heart!!
How fun!! We usually go to Galveston for beach travel, as we live in East Texas. But we just returned from Port Aransas. It was fun, but not Sand Castle festival. Good for you guys!
Oh, thanks for that last pic. Keeping it real!
Sand sculptures are so cool. I love the creativity!
I have to say that I admire you. I would NEVER and I mean NEVER post a picture of my mouth hanging open for the BLOGOSPHERE to see. Kudos to you!!! What a fun post =)
Oh lordie! That picture is PRICELESS!
I'm a tad jealous that we STILL haven't hit summer temps here in the midwest. On the news the other night the meteorologist showed a world map with HUGE swatches of color over the top 2/3 - the areas affected by global warming. Then, if you looked, there was a teensy tiny jelly bean shaped are over the Great Lakes. That's where I live. D'OH!
Looks like it was a great time!
I absolutely do not drool while sleeping either. My husband dampens my pillow to substantiate his claims. And the recording of someone snoring is most definitely Not Me.
wow those are amazing. Looks like a beautiful day and fun was had by all.

So funny! :D The sand castles are beautiful.
Thanks for being brave and posting the sleeping pic. ;) It was the perfect finish to your post. heheh!
