Nintendo DS Backyard Baseball '10 {Giveaway}

This giveaway has now closed. Winner will be announced soon!

My hubby was kind enough to write this review/giveaway:

Yesterday, April 6 was the opening day of major league baseball.  I have fond memories of "the great American pastime."  At around three years old I walked behind my ten year old sister, in the middle of a backyard game while she stood crouched over home plate.  It was a beautiful swing.  Unfortunately the only "thwack" that old wooden Louisville Slugger made was a line drive to the middle of my nose on the back swing.  Yes, that's how I broke my nose the first time and got introduced to the game.

At about 8, I was in the front yard enjoying a great game of catch with my Dad.  It was something we did often.  On this particular day, I missed the ball and it hit me square in the nose.  The blood gushed; my dad held his white handkerchief over my nose, and I cried.  As we finished cleaning up my nose in the bathroom, my dad said that we had better take a break from playing catch.  I proceeded to my bedroom.  I got out a suitcase, packed it up and ran away.  I ran away because I didn't want to stop playing catch.  No bloody nose was going to keep me from doing what I loved.

Recently, I got to relive the glory days.  The good folks at Backyard Sports allowed me to review a copy of Backyard Baseball, DS version. It's also available for the Wii, Playstation 2, and the PC.  This game is awesome.

Backyard Baseball '10

I loved the fact that you can play with kid versions of  major league players like Derek Jeter and Ken Griffey, Jr. or a gang of rough and tumble neighborhood kids.  Within in minutes, I had learned the basics of the game and was playing nine innings out at the old airport.

A few really cool features is that you can play a quick game, an entire season, or even compete in a backyard style home run derby.  As you progress through the game you unlock new baseball fields and major league players.  Backyard sports has won numerous awards and their games are rated "E" for everyone.

One thing that really excited me about Backyard Baseball, is that I think it will be a good tool to help my six year old son really learn the basics of the game.  Backyard baseball has several levels ranging from easy to difficult.  I plan on giving him the cartridge that I've been sneaking around reviewing for his birthday.

My best baseball memory:  My dad promised me when I was eleven years old.  If I hit a home run in little league baseball,  I could go to the local sporting goods store and pick out any bat I wanted.  I hit my first one at the end of the season. I went to Holme's sporting goods the next day and picked out the most expensive bat in the store.  I stil have that Adirondack Big Stick, and I still love baseball.

If you'd like to win a copy (value $30), please leave a comment. A random winner will be chosen on Thursday.

Don't forget to check out my other home decor giveaway going on right now!

Love the visual "Hubby" provided (except maybe for the gushing blood, that is!)!! Brings me back to my childhood days when our Dad used to pitch to us! Great job, Hubby! My son, Jack, and my husband would have HOURS of enjoyment together playing this game...and it would come at a perfect time since he'll be starting little league for the first time in a couple of months! I hope we win! Thanks for another great giveaway!

Hmmm...let's see: baseball, childhood memories of said sport, video games and a a giveaway...sign me up. Nice review. I don't remember a bloody nose, but I did catch a line drive with my skull while pitching one time. Got to ride in a cool VW Microbus ('72 model, I think) after being unconcious. Xray were in order to have my head examined. All is well with my skull and my pitching arm.

I got to clock my pitching at Minute Maid park on Sat before the home opener. Not what it used to be...oh well, but it did smart a bit. I'm too old for sports injuries (let's hope!) so I left it at three tries. I can't imagine how these guys throw 90+ MPH. Don't know if I ever had an arm like that.

Thanks for sharing, and here's to no more bloody noses, for ANY reason ;-)
