That Family Tree Society-Issue 32

Picture of the Week:

The Week in Review: The kids have been enjoying our warm weather this week. And the worms.... (gag)

Introduction into The Society: Please help me welcome Toast on the Ceiling! (I love that blog name!)

1.    Tell us a little about your blog (name/reason why you blog):

My blog is called Toast on the Ceiling.  I started writing because I was dealing with my son's disability/challenges(Severe GERD, Asthma, Stridor, severe speech delay, in-toeing and Sensory Integration Disorder) and needed a better place to vent.  I write about my son, plus general mom stuff.  Things like my daughter's old school vs new school, wanting to drink at lunch because of work, my son not wanting to potty train, and being the cookie mom for my daughter's Daisy troop.

2.    How long have you blogging?

Over a year now.  The blog began in September, 2007. Once I saw other moms/dads/women/men doing it, I decided I could too.  I finally put a degree in English to good use!

3.    How would you define THAT family?

THAT family is the one that is unconventional, but not in a "call the child authorities" way. They do things that are outside the norm, but aren't really harmful.  Usually have a harmless quirk to them that some cannot understand.  They may be heavily involved in Scouts, over passionate
about square dancing or closet environmentalists, for example.  THAT families are loud, boisterous and can be fun, if you take the time to know them.  If you don't know them well, you think they are weird and run away.

4.    When did you discover you were a part of THAT family?

I think we always were.  I think my husband and I grew in THAT families, so it was inevitable we would be one.  People look at me like I am crazy most of the time, with how I raise my kids, so I think I'm doing something right!

5.    Where can we find your blog?

I write for MandM - all the way from New Zealand. We are called MandM as I blog with my husband and our names both start with M. I began the blog because my husband couldn't get work as a Christian Philosopher and he had been trying to raise his profile but each publication took so long to achieve - editors to navigate, etc - blogging just seemed simpler and you could write what you wanted. Now MandM always sits in the top 5 most read New Zealand Christian blogs. We are a strange blend of Christian philosophy, theology, family life, humour, political commentary, equestrian commentary and homely stuff. I don't know why but the blend works!

We have been blogging just over 2 years.

A THAT family is one that does not fit the box, that raises eyebrows, is a bit different but is very interesting nonetheless.

I have always known I was part of a THAT family. My husband and I are both strong, strange and differently wired people - our kids didn't stand a chance LOL! They are really interesting and different people too.

Anyway, you can find me at MandM http://www.mandm.org.nz though I hang here a bit too!

I love the family tree society series. Now I know I am not alone being a part of THAT family. :)

This is why I love this series... now I've discovered another blog about SPD/ SID. (Our Tongginator has it.) Thanks, Kristen.

Add me to the list of SPD moms. I haven't blogged too much about TheOldest's sensory seeking issues, but I'm so glad you are doing this series since now I had a couple other blogs to check out.

And I'm so jealous of your weather. We are going nuts in this house and it is currently 16 degrees. Come on spring. I'll even take the worms.

I just posted a worm pic today too. I had no idea it was worm season across the country. I'll have to mark it on the calendar for next year!

FINE!!! Tease me, torture me and torment me with pictures of warm weather and spring. We're not exactly celebrating THAT season at this moment in the Pacific northwest.

Rest assured, I will pay you back later this year with the most magnificent pictures of fall that you'll ever see . . . . in mid October!!! Muahahahahahahaha
