Duke

Every farm needs a dog or two (so I learned on our little Spring Breakaway to my in-laws farm this past week).

Meet Duke:

He’s a cow dog, in training.

At 12 weeks old, he’s not only adorable, he’s the little brother my son will never have (or the puppy, for that matter).

And Duke takes his job seriously:

His innate sense of herding comes from his bloodline.

The puppy breath is just a bonus.

He wears his name like a Title. But as with all babies, there is human baby talk.

His regal name was quickly transformed into a pet name by the aunts, uncles and cousins.

Duke turned Dookie.

And my proper mother-in-law turned ashen.

She declared, “I will not have a farm dog named Dookie!”

And she vowed to rename him once her children’s children returned home.

Scooter just didn’t have the same effect.

Until I snapped this picture and my mind formed this caption:

My two little Dookies.”

Come to think of it, Scooter is a nice cow dog name.

So cute! I really think that boy needs a puppy. Come on, how hard could it be? I'll let you know in a couple days when we bring our puppy home!

Absolutely precious! We have 2 doggies and 2 Dookies- um, I mean little boys. They fit together well and have matching energy levels!

Oh, he is quite handsom! I have his female half here on our farm. She herds cats and guineas! Nice looking little man as well!

I love Blue Heelers! Very good dogs. We have an Australian Shepherd named Duke and I have never called him Dookie for that very reason lol. There is a pic of him on one of my random headers on my blog if interested... ;-)

Adorable! Every farm does need a dog.. We want one too, but our farm is about .0000009/100 of an acre in size.. not much doggie running room!

How adorable! My son is also in need of a puppy...3 sisters and no brothers! We tend to lead him to believe that my parents dog is really his and they just are borrowing him permanantly!

We had a dog named Duke when I was growing up, too, and we called him Dookie sometimes too!

We have a 7 month old beagle puppy and my daughter got the honor of naming her. She chose Gwen. I call her Gwennie and it drives my daughter nuts!!!! I'll have to tell her it's better than dookie.

How cute! My parent raise "cow dogs" as you call them... Australian Cattle Dogs. They come in red or blue... this one blue.

Don't know how much you know about them, but if they don't have something to herd, esp. the males, they will herd you :) Funny at first, but can get to be a pain.. don't ask me how I know!

They are great dogs! My sister was brave enough to take one into her home.. a female, & with some obedience training she has a great dog that is also a little protective .. which was great when she was living alone.

We have an australian cattledog or red heeler mix and she is an awesome dog. She is mixed with beagle. She is ten now and slowing down some but she loved to herd my kids when she was a pup.. Your Duke is very cute!

What a cute puppy. I have a 10 year old Australian Cattle dog. I got her years ago when I still had horses. Those dogs are like a timex watch...can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'!! He life now consists of laying around, napping and trying to avoid my one year old.

We have a Duke at our house (he is a foster dog) and everyone started that "Dookie" thing with him. I call him Doodle now, just to ward off Dookies.
