DIYP #33 Customizing {Lamps} with Stencils

I love this lamp I found at Target. At first glance, it looks like an average light.

Until you turn it on:

The lovely damask pattern comes to life in the light. I love the way it coordinates with my damask bedding.

This lampshade really inspired me to customize this lamp (another clearance aisle special from Tar-jay) in my favorite new corner of the house.

The first house my hubby and I lived in a million years ago benefitted from my stencil-happy hands. I think I stenciled every room in the house! I haven't stenciled in awhile and thought it would give this lamp a neat touch. It's such a cheap and easy way to customize.

I taped the stencil to the inside of the lamp. And added black acrylic paint.

I love the simple elegant touch this added!

I couldn't decide if I should do the whole lampshade. What do you think?

This is such a great idea. I have a lamp shade that I waa thinking about getting rid of and I think you just gave it a new life :)

Great idea; I never would have thought about doing a design on the inside.

I wouldn't do more panels on your lampshade, but I might do a reverse-effect one by doing one on the base in gold. It would be a cool way of tying them together.

That is so neat!

Thanks for sharing!

I think both lampshades are gorgeous. I don't know that I would do more stenciling on the shade that you did. It looks so nice as it is. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Good Job,

I think I would do all sections of the new lamp.
Where do you come up with all of these great ideas?

So creative! I love it. Yes do the whole lampshade.

I think I like the single. Then when you tire of it, just turn the lamp shade around to where the pattern is facing the wall...no one will see it then, so a new looking lamp!! ha ha ha. That is why I am not in charge of decorating!!!

Love the stencil! I think I would keep it as is, packs more of a punch that way.

What a great idea!

As the voice of dissent, I think I would put on on each panel. I like repeating patterns.

That is beautiful!!! I think I would do all of it too. I never have luck with stencils. How do you do it without it bleeding outside of the stencil??

I love that idea! I definitely think you should do the whole lamp. Now I need to go and search for lamps at my house that need a little stencil pick me up!
Great to meet you at Blissdom.

This really is a fabulous (and easy!) idea; I have a table lamp given to me by my grandmother that I luv, but the shade needs....*something* - this just may be my solution! Thanks for sharing...

Cool! I think I'd just leave it as is. Pretty!

I love this idea! I have a lamp that would be perfect for this - I think I'll try to do a monogram stencil. Hope I can get it on right side out! :-)

Your lamp turned out so pretty. I like the idea of a gold stencil on the bottom--to tie it together.

But I also think adding one per pannel to the top would be pretty, too.

Guess it's all up to you! :)

LOVE the stencil idea. Back in the day I was a lover of the stencils, too. I painted them around the top of our cinderblock walls in our first apartment. And I have that exact same lamp in my post. Too funny!
