This is a BIG Deal

It only happens a couple of times a decade.

And this is the first time my kids have seen it in their yard {which warranted me dragging their sick bodies out of bed last night}.

I'm sure there will be mocking from the Northerners (cough*cough The Diaper Diaries)

But it turns out there is a snow balls chance in Texas.

{side note:} For the last 3 weeks, we have had ALL MANNER of illnesses in our home. I feel like the germs are planning a full takeover. I've bleached every surface.  And cried. Any suggestions?

Aww how fun that you got snow!!!

So sorry about the sickness. Other then disinfecting everything and everyone's beds as well with bleach I am no help. Don't forget the keyboard, phones, lightswitches and door handles! Hang in there!

Boost immune systems with soup. I've literally seen my mother give her patients a recipe instead of a prescription. She says to take Swanson's chicken broth, a small amount of coconut oil, and just a tad bit of Thai green curry. Personally, I like what she used to make: salty broth with some celery chunks and a little ginger.

Also, vitamin C really seems to help me. I like the Emergen-C drink, but plain OJ works well too.

As a northerner myself, I'll be nice!!! :P I'm happy for you. Really. I actually like snow. But if you get a snow day, I'm going to be soooo jealous!

Yay for snow! Still waiting on that here in NC!

We are in the same boat with sickness. My oldest has brought home every germ imaginable from his Sunday school class - passing it along to his newborn brother. I'm about to rip my hair out! I have no advice other than cleaning, cleaning and handwashing like a mad woman!!! We wash every hour on the hour while awake. Before and after meals (obviously!) and naps.

Drives me crazy!!! I'll be checking back for more help too!!!

we get snow here and were supposed to on Monday but it was a no show so I am jealous.

As for the germs, lysol spray everything and wash hands. Vitamins garlic and rest. Also while there systems are down I would try keep them away from other sickies as mch as possible until you are all a little stronger.

Little one has pretty good immunity and I think it is because I am not a germophobe at all, a little dirt with a few germs thrown in never hurt anyone:)

Yea, snow!!! Hope the kids were able to enjoy it despite the sickness.

I read in a parenting magazine the other day to CHANGE TOOTHBRUSHES when you get sick, because the germs can linger in the toothbrush and re-infect. I guess it is worth a try right?? Hope you are all mending soon!
Blessings,
Megan

Very jealous of your snow.
Not jealous of your germs.

I have no words of wisdom. Just sympathy

First off I dont know HOW we missed the snow-considering we are less than 5 min, from you. WEIRD
Anyway- as for Butt-Kicking Germ War: Lysol of course, but I have read that Collidal Silver boost the immune system (It taste like water) I have both kids on it-I also give them chewable acidophylisis(sp??) its suppose to put healthy bacteria back in the intestines and last-stay away from dairy for a while-for some reason it breeds bacteria. of course if I took cheese away from my kids it would be the end of the world-but i did take out milk and yogurt. Hope this helps and you dont think Im a all natural weirdo (well I kinda am) :-)

We've been enjoying a "Sneaux Day" ourselves, here in Louisiana.

Check out my post from today...Let It SNOW, Let It SNOW, Let It SNOW.

We even made a snowman...um, not quite two feet tall. But hey, I'm a Florida girl...can't take the cold long enough to build a "real" Frosty.

Ha, thanks for the shout out. Anytime you want to come visit, your kids can make about 30 snowmen in my backyard. I will send you some pics of what a snowfall looks like up here. Hope you all are feeling better!!

I'm biting my tongue.

BTW, I swear by echinacea and making my kids put a little purell on their hands the second they get into the minivan.

What we would call a light dusting of snow, I understand you got there?!?! We saw the news and they were talking about the snow in Houston and Louisiana and it certainly did make me go wow! We are in Canada and we are used to getting a lot of snow often in the winter months! Have fun

Jenny said...

My mom and brother called to brag about the snow. I left Houston for a place even less likely for snow!

Thank you for posting pictures of the dusting. I appreciate a nice Texas snow! = )

awww I love it! The good thing is you get to enjoy beauty of the snow and then it goes away after a day or so and you don't have to live in all the post-snow mess!

I don't have any suggestions but we take / drink the emergen C like it's koolaide during the sickly months..and I posted on the snow also..it was fun for the kids to wake up and see some!

TOOTHBRUSHES. Disinfect them or buy new ones!! Otherwise, they could be giving their germs right back to themselves. Don't forget to wash and dry their pillows too.
Also, have them use hand sanitizer often, in between washings.

I suppose you couldn't send them to school with surgical masks on? :P

Love the snow pics! We didn't get any, too far north. : / Glad you got some though! It IS a big deal!!

We Southern folks sure do like to see some snow fall....just for a brief spell. We were forecast to have some here too, but so far, nothing!

My daughter's teacher told her that if she slept in her pajamas and put a spoon under her pillow it would snow. Both of my kids are trying it out.

How cool. We worked at a resort in south Texas, near McAllen. It snowed there on Christmas Day of 2004. It was a very rare occasion. I have pictures of palm and orange trees with snow on them.

The last time it snowed here, my twins were three years old. I hope your kids enjoyed EVERY snowflake! And hope that y'all are feeling much better soon.

I'm just amazed y'all have hats, gloves and coats!

We got snow over in this part of Texas, too. (I also posted on it.) Having been raised in the north and then moving to Texas from Chicago, we do still snicker at the "winter weather" and "snow event" descriptions of the local weather forecasters!

When we did live up north, I always woke my kids, if necessary, to see the first snowfall of the year.

Our October was riddled with back to back to back illnesses. Lysol was my best friend. Like others have said, don't forget to clean door knobs, remote controls, light switches, toilet handles, faucet handles, etc.

Praying you'll all soon be well!

We have enjoyed quite a few snow days here in the north! I'm glad you children got to enjoy some too!

As for the dreaded sickness, I feel your pain and exhaustion. I agree with the others on the hand washing and bleaching of everything. My only other suggestion is a product we take called Juice Plus+ it is all fruits and vegetables in a chewable or capsule (I also sell it). It is scientifically proven to boost immune systems. What I really like about this product is that it has and is being studied by labs (mostly in large universaties) around the world. They have found some amazing stuff about the power of fruits and vegetables. I have found that it really works for us. Now, I must say we still get sick at times, but it seems to be short lived. The kids bounce back much faster and my husband and I don't seem to catch it as easily from them.
I'll be praying that you are all feeling better soon.

You know, getting snow just once in a while sure makes it all worth while to get out of bed to see. That is really neat that you got to have that experience with the kids. We are getting forcast for another ICE STORM next week. Hopefully NOTHING like last year, and hopefully it WON'T happen, but they are watching the conditions very closely. I am going to run to grocery store today for a few things....just in case. Then stack the wood on the patio and hunker down for a few days of enjoying nothing!

Hope you all start feeling better soon, Christmas is just two weeks away! Take care!

The snow is so fun for the kiddos!

Hope you all get better soon! I have a friend who swears by opening up the door and windows and giving the house a complete airing out even if it's freezing outside to get rid of germs. One of the reasons we have so many illnesses in winter is because there is no fresh air circulating through the house and we don't go outside much. Maybe you can all bundle up and try it for a bit each day...

First of all, your tree is beautiful. I have the wooden cranberry strand too and it's my very favorite part of the tree.
Secondly, the snow rocked here, too!!
Thirdly, what kind of sicknesses? Here are my suggestions:
sinus rinse kit (AYR kit at the drug store)
raw garlic chopped into tiny pieces and covered in honey (a spoonful each)
oranges and/or grapefruit at every other meal
chicken soup made with the bones in it

hugs,
GfG

Snow! You can have some of ours if you want...

Echinacea, Fenugreek, Vitamin C and Garlic are all immunity boosters. I take all 4 each morning when people are getting sick in the household...it really helps! Also, opening windows and letting some new air in the house will help too!

Since I love in Minnesota, I am laughing a teeny tiny bit. BUT, the first snow of every year continues to be super exciting, especially for the kids. After that, we're all just ready to get through it and warm up :)

I guess to kick all the sickness in your home...you're going to have to move.

Get some probiotics too. And chocolate.

Oh honey, I'm with you on the sicknesses. And crying. UTI, vomiting, fever, sniffly green snotty noses, you name it. And one night all you-know-what broke loose, both girls were crying, and I spilled milk. So I sat on my milky kitchen floor and cried while both girls were crying in their respective rooms after bedtime. I'm glad it was a while before my husband came home, 'cause it gave me time to clean myself and my kitchen up and get the girls happily sleeping. We're better now (after a week), so don't worry; the light shall come. :)

I don't comment a lot but had to say: I loved your Food for the Soul. I truly believe if the Bible had been written today, the end of that verse would've said, "..and the glory of the Lord will cover your six!"
