And They Say Money Can't Buy Happiness

My son bought this enormous baseball trophy at a garage sale for $1.00.

It is proudly displayed on his messy dresser.

When I asked him, "Why?  Why do you want to buy this with your allowance?"

He said, "Mom, it's so much easier than trying to earn one."

That's my frugal, corner-cutting boy. It makes a Mom proud, ya know?

Well, he is right ya know! Love the decor he's got going on there!
Who would sell a trophy at a yard sale anyway?! I bet they about flipped when it sold.lol

Smart boy! What kind of a trophy is it, was it originally won for something he's interested in?

That is hilarious! My older daughter constantly "steals" her younger sister's dance trophy. All the dancers got one at the recital last year. So, this year they are both doing dance. I asked the older daughter if she likes it. She said, "I just want the trophy." I guess I know where my $50/month goes towards!

Oh, I don't know... I totally would have done the same if it had been an Olympic Gold Medal instead of a trophy. You know, because people would be too embarrassed to ask what it was for (they're supposed to KNOW those things) and there are enough vague summer sports out there to make it possible. Shooting anyone? Race walking? How about synchronized swimming? Those ladies all look the same with their caps and eye make-up anyway.

What a HOOT! Display it proudly.
Gee, what was the year on the base? Cause, if it was before he was born, does he have a plan to explain it to whoever he might need to? :') (She writes, chuckling out loud.)

That is funny!! I remember my dad had a whole shelf full of trophies from winning tractor pulls and we had to dust each crack and corner of those things every Saturday!!! You son's trophy brings back memories for me!!

Well...he's totally right, Mom. Do you know how much effort goes into a trophy that size? :) He's got brains! Too funny!

My older son has bought a couple of small trophies at garage sales, too. I guess it is a symbol for them, of accomplishment and belonging, even if they did not earn it themselves...either that, or it's just pretty darn cool to have a trophy :)

He is right, it is so much easier than trying to earn it. What a smart fella.

Yes, I agree with the other posters, who would sell their trophy? And I'm sure the seller thought, who would but it?

Hope your son enjoys his new bling!

That son of yours - brilliant!! The world would be so much better if we would all take that approach. Maybe Target could start selling things like self-esteem, ability to speak in public, and size 4 bodies. Then, we could just fill up the cart and say "Done!".

Way too funny! I may just use this as an object lesson with the teen girls I mentor! Thanks for the lesson!

Well he does have a point. It leaves more time for doing other things and still has the same end results.

Way to go champ! I like that trophy! Is that what I am going to do with all the kids trophy's when they head off to college, sell them for a buck at a garage sale? (its yard sale here in the south east)

As soon as I read it I could hear Larry the Cable Guy say, "I don't care who you are that's funny right there." Thanks for a great laugh, I really needed it this morning!

I'd like to second (or third) the request for info on his map. Wow, that's fantastic; I bet my sons would Love it.

Blessings,
Whitney

Oh boy, I'd best not show the Tigers, they have my running 'trophies' on their desks. They are about 8 inches - not 8 feet. Too cute.

And ditto on lovin' the map wall!

Please let your son know he can double his investment if he finds me a tiara at a yard sale. I don't want to have to do the work for that one either, but I covet the crown....

Awesome!! $1 is much better than the enrollment fee, uniform, gas to drive to games, etc. Skip that part and go straight for the trophy! He's got a good head on his shoulders :)
