DIYP #10-Easy, Cheap & Terribly Adorable Wall Letters

Welcome to this weekend's DIY project.

I've mentioned my scrap booking guilt before.  I actually started my weekly carnival, Sincerely 'Fro Me to You, to share some of the pictures that will never be cut with crinkle scissors.  I also wanted to show off my  'fro.

Because I'm vain. Because verbalizing is therapeutic.

I wanted to create a unique, inexpensive piece of art for my baby's nursery.  I've heard about all the fancy scrap book altering out there and ran across this great article, Altered chipboard letters.

And so, this is what I did with all the unused scrap paper I possess.

I bought 4 chipboard letters, they cost around $1.50 each.  They come in a variety of sizes, but I wanted mine to make a statement, so I bought 4" ones.  You can find some just like it here: Chipboard letters.

This is what they look like:

Next, choose some scrap book paper that speaks to you. The nursery is green, black and red (Frog Princess), so I chose patterns in those colors I liked.

Then I traced the chipboard letter onto the paper. Cut it out and glued the scrap book paper to the letter, like so:

For one of the letters, I enlarged a snapshot of a newborn picture and traced the chipboard letter on the back of the photograph.  I cut it out and glued it to the chipboard.

Like this:

I applied a light coat of Decoupage over the letters to give them a finished look.

Here's it all put together.  This is one of my favorite corners in my house.

I attached the light-weight letters to the wall with sticky poster tabs.  You can spell any name or words and decorate to match any room!  This is a really easy, versatile project and the whole thing cost less than $10!

Cute! I have known about this for sometime now. I just now sorta did it. I went with the small letters so that it would go great with the raggamuffin garland that I made (many thanks to that nester). Although the picture, I would have never thought of it, and it's AWESOME!

Great idea! Especially the baby face in place of the fabric.

What a fantastic idea! Looks easy enough for the craft-impaired (read: me!) too. I love the baby face in the letter...might have to copy that!

I love it! I really love that you have a chandelier in the nursery, I so love the model homes that use them, one of my favorite things to do is go look at model houses and I want a chandelier in my bedroom so badly but it gets hot, and HD must have a ceiling fan,

Great idea! I'm gonna have to keep this one in my mental file. I might use this when my daughter gets a bit older and I need an idea on how to update her bedroom.

I can totally see why this is one of your favorite corners... though each time we get a glimpse of your house, I am always amazed... you have a knack for decorating... wanna come help with my house?
These letters are adorable. We have just plain white letters above each of our child's bed spelling out his or her name... I like the artistic flair you used to make yours unique!

This is really cute! I had painted some letters for my daughter's room when she was younger. I like the patterned paper and picture idea so much better. Oh, well... there's always the grandbabies' nurseries to help decorate someday, right?

Come by my place and see why today is a special day... there's even a giveaway!

Blessings!

I did the same thing with fabric; but paper would have been better.
I love the photo B.
Now I want to see the rest of this fab nursery. Give us a tour! :)

Those are great! The photo idea is so charming.

You can also print out letters to trace around--you have to print them backwards, but that's not too hard either. Then you can use any font you want!

I have been wanting to do this project for a while now (call me a procrastinator, I'm fine with that =)....Did you wrap the paper around the edges of the letters or just match the paper to the exact size of the letters?

I LOVE this!! I may have to get my crafty self out and copy you ;)

I adore this! This would be simple to do and really add a lot to a room. You're so creative...I'd hate you if I didn't love ya.

This is just the thing I have been looking for for our boys' room! We have all three boys in the same room, so I think it will be neat to have their names above their beds, to individualize it a bit.

Thanks so much for the great tip! :)

Thanks for the great idea. I love it. I noticed a lot of people are buying the sticker, but they cost a lot more than this. This is way cuter!

What an awesome corner! I LOVE that rocking chair...does it have a long history? It looks old. I LOVE old stuff.

I am working on a wall that will have many different black picture frames of all sizes with B&W pics of our family. I will create a large square with all the frames.

Anyway, now I need to include a word using this technique to go with it...fantasic! Thank you!!
