Welcome to My Pity Party! & Impromptu Giveaway!

*UPDATE* Congrats to Barbara H. of Stray Thoughts.  You just won the Barnes & Noble Giftcard.  Email me your address at kristenwrites@yahoo.com and I'll mail it to you!

Bloghop08

Hi! Welcome to THAT family's blog.  I'm so glad you stopped by for my pity party.

This time last year, I couldn't even define the word blog.

Now, I'm whining about not attending a massive conference for women bloggers.

It's called evolving.

You know, I cook for my family at least 5 days a week and I have never once wanted to attend a cooking conference.

And I clean randomly every day and yet I've never wanted to spend oodles of money flying to other parts of the world to enhance my skills.

Go figure.

But give me a platform to share My Rear View, my unique mopping-style or unhealthy love for Sweet Tea? And don't forget pictures of my perm-induced childhood 'fro! And I just want to learn more.

It's called obsession Passion.

So, I'm bringing a great bottle of whine to this hopping party and a plan to attend at least one blogging conference next year where I will know absolutely no one and feel completely out of my comfort zone.

That's how I roll.

Maybe.

I'm actually not too bummed because the BlogHer conference is coinciding nicely with our family vacation.  And if I had to choose spending a weekend with people I've never met and my favorite people in all the world, well, it isn't even a choice.

So, leave me a comment and tell me 'if you'll attend a blogging conference in the future' and I'll randomly pick a winner Sunday morning to win a $25 gift card to Barnes and Noble (courtesy of the PTA at my kid's school for being a room mom-I never got around to spending it)!

Not sure exactly what I'm supposed to say, but I do wish you were able to go to the conference!!

I don't think I'd ever go. I'm just not that outgoing in-person, I'd be a nervous wreck the entire time. If I could somehow go as a piece of luggage or some other nonobtrusive object, I could go and just sit on a table and observe. But actually mingling? I'd rather mingle online, where I don't have to wear a bra.

I'm conflicted about the whole conference thing. I don't want to be away from my baby for so long, and I'd rather spend the money to go on a vacation with my family. On the other hand, I'd love to get some exposure for my blog and all that. I would really enjoy it. Oh, well.

So I might go to a BlogHer conference in the future. And then again, I might not.

Sorry you're feeling down.

Anonymous said...

I am sorry you are feeling blue!!! I don't know if I will ever get to "get away" for a conference! Not that I wouldn't love to . . . simply that I have five kids, 3 dogs and an overfull life! I think if the kids were older it would be easier, but with the boys all being under six - I just may come home to Daddy being tied up and the house set afire!

Kristen . . . just get a great big glass of southern tea and your computer . . . spend hours all alone!

Lora Lynn @ Vitafamiliae said...

I might like to try SheSpeaks, if I can get over my social anxieties.

Duckygirl said...

I'd love to go to one but all my kiddos are still young and it just wouldn't be possible until they are a bit older *sigh*

You inspired me to go to IKEA by the way....I'm oh so addicted now!

I too have felt the lure of Blogher and such. One of these days when I have decided that actually speaking to people doesn't make me sweat buckets then I will go. Oh and the fact that my brood would probably not handle the whole, mommy being gone for more than a couple of hours scenario.

I am SO new to blogging that a blogging conference boggles my mind!!! That's just too much for me to comprehend at this point.

If I should ever become a true blogger I would probably attend a conference because I love, love, love to meet people!!

Moriah @ Please Pass the Salt said...

Yep, I'll come with you next year. :)

You can bring the sweet tea.

Anonymous said...

I had no idea how jealous I'd be.
I'm definitely going next year.
Maybe...

Anonymous said...

As funny as it sounds, I would LOVE to attend a bogging conference! I really like conferences, and since my husband is actually going to have me start a blog for his business, I think it would be fun and beneficial!

adymommy said...

I would love to attend a conference in the future but I would also love to get as many hits in a day as most of the bloggers going to the conferences. My blog is much like I was in high school, on time, worth while, but just sort of blends in with the wallpaper. Oddly enough that is totally my personality so why am I complaining? Oh yeah...I wanna go to BlogHer too:)

Anonymous said...

I think it would be fun to attend a Blog conference and meet all of the lovely people in the blog world!

Anonymous said...

you know, I might just be crazy enough to go to some bloggin conference. It would have to be in the right place at the right time
:0)
Nice to meet ya!

I am SO going to BlogHer next year!!! I hope to meet you there!

Joy said...

See... I don't get the whole BlogHer thing. But even if I did I have no money for a family vaca much less a conference (*GASP* walking around, alone, in the midst of strangers... it's enough to make me want to crawl into bed)!!!

So nope, I won't be attending, probably ever. Now watch. One day in the future I'll be at one and you can laugh in my face... like seriously... TO my face!

Rebecca (Ramblings by Reba) said...

I'm not sure if I'd enjoy a LARGE blogging conference, but I hope to attend some sort of blogging conference in the next couple of years. Fun post! :)

Tami said...

I will sooo go to a Blog conference. Hopefully, sooner than later. I just started blogging in May and was totally trying to figure out a way to go to BlogHer. Obsess much??

Casey said...

I'll never go to a conference... they're all in the states right? too far for me I think

Look at you with the giveawy - how sweet is that?

I still love that post about your husband taking pics of your back side. Actually even MY husband liked that post. ; )

Have a great vacation!!

Jean said...

I'm with you on the obsession/passion. I hope fingers crossed that hubs can hook me up next year with flyer miles and hotel points to go to Blogher. I figure that's the only way I'll get to go.

A Christian Mom said...

Oh, I would love to go to a blog conference, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to afford it. But who knows what will happen in a year. Maybe I'll meet you there! ;o)

Hope you get to make it next year! In the meantime, I'm glad you're partying here at Blog Hop 08! :D

Come check out the live entertainment at my place.

I plan to be there next year - hope to see you there!

I am so going next year, I want to at least be in the same room as some of these women.
Stop by my site for a s'mores recipe I'm a slacker cook.

Kim said...

Ooh...a conference on how to clean better. I think I mind need to attend that one!

The Fritz Facts said...

Oh how I wanted to go!!! I have already started my saving for next year. We will see if that is possible.

I had been blogging for about a year when I heard about BlogHer, and now I can't get enough!

World's Greatest Mommy said...

I wanna go wherever you go! Lucky thing about the vacation, though. Glad I got to hear you and chat tonight!

Anonymous said...

I love meeting new people but I have an inferiority complex about blogging. I am still figuring it all out. So, maybe I would go, maybe not. Depends on the day you ask. :)

Anonymous said...

I'd like to go to one of those blogging conferences, too.

Anonymous said...

I would love to attend a blogging conference next year but honestly don't know if that will happen.

Jeanette said...

I am so new to blogging that I don't even know what Blogher is. There is really a conference for bloggers? I'll have to check it out to see what I am missing. For this year, I am happy to be say that I was able to make this party! Enjoy the vacation :}

How does one "never get around to spending" a B&N gift card? That's a high impossibility in this house! ;-)

I've never really thought about attending a blogger's conference until all this talk about missing BlogHer...but now I think it probably would be a fantastic thing to attend. Who knows...maybe in the future!

By the way, I love the photo of your kids at the bottom of your blog. GREAT shot!

Jackie said...

I'd love to go, but I think I think my nerves would get the best of me and I'd end up stuck at home. Just like tonight. :)

I'm not new to your blog...I believe I fall in the category of "lurker". I love dropping by here...keep it up!

Shanda said...

I'm just hoping I can get to She Speaks next year. That's the goal anyway. It was great chatting with you tonight!

The sacrifices we make as mothers..lol! I won't be attending any blogger conferences because I've only been blogging for five months now. Plus, I so HATE going to large gatherings.

Have a wonderful time at your family reunion!

And I LOVE Barnes and Noble....well, bookstores in general, but I don't have the money to support my habit..lol!

I'd love to go to a bloggin' conference. I think I'd choose SheSpeaks over BlogHer, but if either were easy and affordable to get to, I'd go.

Great blog you have here - can't wait to read more!

Kate said...

I've been very intrigued about all these bloggy conferences I keep hearing about. I'd definitely be interested in going to one... hopefully where I could meet other bloggers I've been reading about for a while (hint, THAT family's mom....)

I think that I may go at some time in the future.
I like reading about them at least!

Thanks for entering me!

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to go to a blogging conference. After living in this desolate post in Germany while my husband is deployed, when I get back to the states, I am going to be Mrs. Women's Conference girl...I'm not going to hesitate one minute (well, maybe just one) to get away and do something for myself!

tarable said...

I am really hoping to go next year and have been petitioning my best blogging girlfriends to start planning for a girly trip, with some conference stuff too! Love your blog - have been here several times before and think I'll make it a regular stop.

Hey, if I'm as far along as you are one year from now I'll be thrilled! Your blog looks great! As far as blogging conferences go, I would probably not do that unless things go mainacally out of control on mine. I prefer writing conferences, personally. And actually, a cooking conference sounds like a lot of fun! :)

I went to She Speaks for the first time this year, and while not a true blogging conference, it was really neat! It was difficult at first to get out of my shell and meet some people -- but then I met Robin and I kinda hid behind her :D She's much better at talking!

I honestly didn't have a desire to go to a blog conference as big as BlogHer because it would be so overwhelming. Most of the blogs I read, well, they aren't there. One of my friends did go and I wish I could have gone for her -- so we could hang out.

Anyway, read up on blogs and get to know people -- and we can all meet even if we have to make our own conference :D

Yes, I plan to attend one in the '08 portion of this year. ;) It's all fun. Hey, I was Room Mom and you got the B&N card. ;) Actually, I did receive a lovely Roses plant.

PastormacsAnn said...

I don't know about attending a blogging conference or not. I have mixed feelings about it. Not sure I belong at one really.

I could spend that card for ya. ;0)

It would be hard choice between a blogging conference and a homeschool conference...I guess whichever was cheaper I'd go to!

Perhaps next year I will attend BlogHer, or something of that nature. I'd like to. But my hubby doesn't "get" blogging! So, it will take some major convincing, or perhaps it could coincide with a golf outing for him? See? I'm already thinking.

I've got a beautiful pillar candle for a giveaway on my bloghop post if you'd like to stop by when you get back from your vacation.

I've seen your blog name all over the blogosphere over the last few months, so it's finally good to meet you! I think I'll go add you to my reader now. Bye!

Anonymous said...

OOooo, what a GREAT giveaway...wow! Thank you for being willing to part company with it.

Thanks, too, for chattin' last night :). Twitter is definitely altering "who" I'm beginning to read...so glad our paths have crossed :).

Have a GREAT vacay!!

A blogging conference? No way. A writing conference--Yes. :)

I can't picture myself going to a blogging conference. If I did, I don't think I'd have the courage to introduce myself to anyone -- especially the ones I most wanted to meet! I like communicating via the written word (or electronic in this case.)

fortyb4forty said...

I might try a blogging conference some day. I am still trying to figure things out with blogging so I am not sure.

I would really enjoy going someday! But I love your sweet perspective on why you are missing BlogHer this year. You are definitely getting the better deal!

Your blog is fabulous!

Well fro me to you, I'm wearing a fro now, while you were wearing it then. I say I've brought the afro back! On my blog, all of my pictures show my hair in a cute cut with a relaxer. Now, it's all natural, picked into a fro, nice and round, cute as can be! My husband loves it!

It was nice to meet you.

Anonymous said...

Hello, Twitter friend! Well, yes, I would have loved to have met some great bloggers, but I'm happy just staying home with my family.

I would like to go another time. Hopefully it won't be in San Francisco.

Anonymous said...

I honestly didn't think about the fact that everyone was actually going to be there and talking about meeting everyone in person.

I just started blogging(other than myspace) a couple months ago. I felt like I couldn't go because of my lightweight blogger status. I do think I would like to go and meet these amazing women. I hope it's closer to home next year! Maybe we can have a glass of sweet tea and discuss our children's ER visits.

Anonymous said...

I'd love to be able to give you a resounding YES to that question. A lot depends on where I am in my recluse stage and general fear of people outside my own home. *lol*

If I'm feeling up to it, BlogHer Boston in October sounds like it might be doable.

Darla said...

I think eventually I'll go to one. I really want to meetchya'll.

Anonymous said...

Hm, hadn't really thought about it until you asked..

On the one hand, it would be really nice to get away with a ton of other ladies who I have at least one thing in common with (blogging) and no kids.

On the other hand, I get to do that once a year at our church's ladies' retreat for a lot less money.

I guess I probably won't be going to any conferences anytime in the next year.. unless my blog really starts growing to the point that I might be able to justify it!

Spookygirl said...

Nice to *meet* you! I so wanna hit BlogHer 09, to put some voices to the blogs I read daily, like yours. Party on!

I'm normally not a people person, but I really hope to go next year. That's my plan at least.

I have to say that I love your blog header. It's the picture of the sink full of dirty dishes. I don't have to go look in the kitchen now. :)
