The Best Mom

I felt frumpy the other day.

Very. Frumpy.

A tornado of children and dirt had blown thru my home. My hair needed some serious professional care. My pants were tight from all the brownies and recovering. The eye brows and toes, well, let's just say, there are some things you shouldn't try at home.

I felt a little frumpy on the inside too, all the way down to my gizzard. You know, just like I was trying to keep all the plates spinning at the same time. I was doing everything I normally did-balancing home, kids, hubby, part time job-but none of it excellent.

In the middle of my pity party, my son crawled up into my lap. Being all elbows and knees, I had to focus.

Be
cause all that boniness- it hurt.

I was finishing up some mundane mother-task, when he leaned in and said,

"You're the best mother I've ever had."

Immediately I was tempted to laugh it off, "How many mother's have you had?" or "Oh yeah, folding laundry makes me mother-of-the-year!" As I started to tease him, something stopped me.

It was the look in his eyes. When I looked deeply, I could see his heart.

Oh, my. He meant it.

And so, I said two words. The two right words, "Thank you."

He hugged me and ran off.

Nothing could have snapped me out of frumpiness, except a moment like that: pure love.

I'm the only mother he's had. But you know what? I'm the mother my children are supposed to have. They love me in all my frumpiness.

So, am I the best mom? No. But I'm their mom, good and bad.

And that's enough.

Have an amazing Mother's Day.

Love,

Aren't mothers supposed to be frumpy? :P

I've always told my son that he's my favorite boy in the whole world. Now that I know I'm having a 2nd girl, I'm glad I can still say that, but I have to figure out what to tell my daughter.

Perfectly stated my bloggy friend. (is it okay if I call you that?) ; )

I know what you mean about the boniness - my son "knees" me all the time with those things and it hurts! But it's usually when he's crawling in my lap for a hug too, so I cannot really complain.

Happy Mother's Day to you!
