What I Know. . .

As Mother's Day approaches, I made a list of ten things I didn't know before I had kids . . .I like to think of it as developing my inner beauty as a Mom.

10. I didn't know I'd clean my kid's plates (and I'm not talking about with a dishwasher).

9. I didn't know I'd eat my children's Easter candy while they were at school.

8. I didn't know I would lie, daily.

7. I didn't know they would believe the lies.

6. I didn't know that I'd get used to a messy house.

5. I didn't know I would learn to appreciate the fine art of 'arm farting.'

4. I didn't know I would grow eyes in the back of my head.

3. I didn't know I would sit down with my 8 year old daughter and talk to her about Miley
Cyrus being photographed without a shirt on.

2. I didn't know my heart would break every time their's is broken.

1. I didn't know I would ache to keep them little, young, innocent, mine.

I've learned so much. I still have much to learn. My kids are great teachers and I'm honored to be their Mom. Dirty house and all.

What didn't you know?

My heart breaks every time my kids get a day older. My little girl is growing up too fast and it makes me so sad!!!!!!

I didn't know any of that either! Except maybe the arm farting part - I don't have boys ;-)

A-men! There's arm farting at my house, and I don't have a boy.

Well, I don't have a boy unless you count my husband. :)

I didn't know that I'd purchase a widemouth gatorade bottle before every roadtrip. Not just to drink, or as a tradition. Oh no, that sucker is so I don't have to pull over on I90 so many times. Gotta loooove boys. ;o)

I didn't know that I would spend several hours worrying about things that they MIGHT experience or do when they are teenagers. For that matter, I didn't know I was going to spend the rest of my life worrying...PERIOD. According to my mother, it never ends, even when they are all grown up and have families of their own. As a matter of fact, my mother once told me that she worries more about me now that I am on own.

I didn't know about #1 either and it tears my heart out D.A.I.L.Y.

"I never knew (or would admit) I really would sound like my own mother!!"

I can't quit gigglin' at #9...so true!

Love your blog btw.

I didn't know that I could love anything like I love them.

I didn't know that my days would be filled with so much laughter.

Very cute - sweet - funny list. Kids bring you so much of everything - love, happiness, sadness...many adventures, daily.

I will share one thing I have learned:

I didn't know I would be praying for someone to send me to my room on a daily basis.

I didn't realize HOW MUCH I would enjoy being with the same human every day, all day.

Even on my most frustrating days I like him :) I put him to bed, anxious for a break, then a few hours later I'm missing him. I sneak into his room to just watch him peacefully sleep.

I love my baby.

New to your blog, and I'm digging it! This is a great list, and I've done my own over at my place so I didn't take up the whole comment section. :)

I love this! So much fun...

I didn't know I would sneak into their rooms and watch them breathe, just to make sure they are breathing.

I didn't know that a quiet night would be so lonely.

Man I love my kids.

Love your list!

Your list is great, your number one is really hitting home right now. I cry almost daily at the fact that Jessie is about to graduate. We have come so far together.

I like the one about telling lies the best. This is so true and funny, but also kind of disconcerting at times.

Didn't know that by being a mommy...

I'd lose myself and find myself at the same time.
I'd learn more in two months of motherhood than in 4 years of college.
I'd appreciate a dandelion more than a dozen roses.

Thanks for the post and the reminders!

I LOVE this post.

Before I had kids, I didn't know that a slobbery kiss could make me happier than 3 karat diamonds, that a little hand in mine was better than a gold bracelet, that making someone else happy truly is the source of inner bliss.

Ok, so i waxed cheesy. Must be the wine I'm drinking. :)

Before kids:

I didn't know that I could love so deeply and hurt just as much.

I didn't know that I would kill for someone.

I didn't know that I would learn to recognize them by their farts.

I didn't know that I would miss my waist that much.

I didn't know that I would miss my hair even more.

I didn't know that I would look at pieces of myself when I looked at them.

I didn't know that I was trustworthy.

I didn't know that I didn't know anything.

Becky, the maid.

Oh, and for all you newly nursing moms...

I didn't know that breastfed baby poop smelled like buttered popcorn.

Yep, I threw up a little in my mouth too.

#9 has got to be my favorite... and the number one on my list that'll happen! :)

That was so well put. Motherhood changed me too. You just can't be the same when your heart is out walking around in the world.

Love your list! I often focus on the "outside image" more than I focus one what I have learned and how I have changed inward. Thanks!

I didn't know how hard it would be to let them go....

I wrote about my daughter's mission trip overseas on my blog if you want to read about letting go..

I found you through Internet Cafe' where I am also on the team.

I enjoyed reading your blog today. I have 5 kids (pictures on my blog) and am in my 21st year of parenting.... My daughter has been overseas since January. She won't be home until June.

Have a blessed day,
Julie
PS. I have eaten my kid's candy too! : )
