Be Thankful for the Little Things

My toddler has a runny nose.  I don’t just mean today, I mean always.

It’s really disgusting.  I’ve taken her to the doctor countless times.  There is no medicine, no remedy.  She just produces large amounts of snot.

You deal with what God gives you, people.

When she gets up from a nap, I always clean her nose.  It’s a necessity since she breathes out of those two little holes.

The other day, I was wiping and swiping and I dislodged an enormous nugget.  In some weird chain of events, it fell from the tissue and landed on her lip.

Before I could remove said nugget, she did the unthinkable.

She licked her lips.

Now this is the toddler who is in a finicky phase and will only eat beige food.  Guess what my picky-eater said?

“Mmmmmmmm.”

I took this as a sign.  She’s ready for something green.

And so, I just wanted to take a minute to be thankful.

Food for the Soul:

Colossians 3:15
"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be
thankful."

YUCK!

FYI: (take it or leave it)
Cut back dairy and switch to SOY (Silk is good).

Mucus membranes produce more "said snot" with dairy products than any other food allergies.
Funny how Dr.s don't "know this"..Test it for yourself.

Ok that is just gross! I'm not saying my own haven't done the very same thing but yuck, I bet you just couldn't say NOOOOOOOOO quick enough could you?

Hey, Daisy was our only child with sever food allergies, and even as a baby she wouldn't eat much. Kind of like her body was protecting her. She had her first ear infection at 5 weeks and the snotty nasty nose continued for her first 10 months until she went into anaphylactic shock after a little bite of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich....
We had her allergy tested and found there was not much she wasn't allergic to! Including milk, which caused the runny nose. Funny thing the doctor never even suggested we have her allergy tested as if it was normal for her to have constant snot, and ear problems, the Doctor kept saying things like "well she does have two older siblings." and "kids just get sick"
I really pushed to get her the help she needed and found that she did have some real issues, which might not be the case with your little booger (I hope that made you laugh, it did me) but I thought you should know.
Try soy milk for a week if you want to do a home test, it comes in very vanilla which is like drinking a melted milk shake, and is really good on cereal!
Oh and by 2 Daisy out grew all of her allergies and we eat what we want again.

Oh I am so glad I am past that stage of life. Except I do have grandkids so I might experience those days once again!!! Hope your little pukers are doing better and Chatty Cathy is back to her normal smell. Have a great day.

"She's ready for something green." Ok that made me laugh out loud. I'm with the others have you had here tested for allergies? My middle one is allergic to every grass except bermuda, cats, the sky, concrete, ya know pretty much anything. She is not allergic to food though. The only draw back is the allergy testing is not fun. There was lots of crying and stuff, but Syd is a cryer. Shes not very good at being the least bit uncomfortable, and she is almost 14.

LOL! Hey, I wrote about snot today, too. It's just part of a mom's life, ya know?! Kids = SNOT. Lots of it.

HA HA HA! I laugh because I have a three year old who CONSTANTLY picks his nose. What's the freakin' obsession there?!? What's worse is that the baby's now discovered he can copy big brother. He won't walk on his own, but he'll stuff that pudgy little finger so far up that nostril...

Oh, and "child of the king" - I read somewhere that too much soy isn't good for kids. There's a chemical in it VERY similar to estrogen and it can cause issues with kids of both sexes. Not that in regular doses it isn't OK...

Sooo funny and soooo gross! I caught my oldest doing it once and not by accident. I told him he'd never have any friends in school b/c nobody likes a booger-eater. It seemed to work.

What can I say...You have inspired me. Not by this particular story exactly, but all in all! Thanks for stopping by earlier. You rock! Maybe we can talk soon and you can show me how to work all this out! See you later.

I did the same thing that ok, where was I? did. Told my son if he picked his nose, he'd be the kid in class that everyone called The Booger Picker. And that nobody wants to be friends with The Booger Picker kid. For the record, he is my allergy sufferer, too. Profuse amounts of snot from about 16 months of age on. Never had him tested though. Claritin takes care of it, so for now we just coast in that blessing.

This is a LONG over due comment. I apologize for not writing sooner. I LOVE your blog. I stumbled across you a few weeks ago from the 5 Min for Mom website and have been checking daily since. You even helped inspire me to start my own blog, so thank you! (in fact your on my blog roll... aren't you so honored) I realized that I have grown to think of you like a friend in that weird way the internet bonds people and what was even more funny to me is that you have no idea I even exist. Now that I have a blog, I realize how bloggers live for comments and I apologize for not writing sooner!! I appreciate your sense of humor and how real you are! I appreciate your obvious love for your husband, children, and Lord, and the way you get that message across. Keep up the great blogs, you're an inspiration and and your entries bring a smile to my face!

When I read "she licked her lips" I smacked my hand over my eyes. (I was only blinded for a minute, but I'm ok now)

When I read "Mmmmmmmmmmm" I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth. Gulp. Yup, I did. I gotta go brush now. Ugh.
