Hi! Welcome to Sincerely 'Fro Me to You. You can read about this madness here, if you want to link up.
I had darling hair at one time.
Before the perms. And the 'fro.
It was soft and wavy. I wore it in pig tails, which curled in wisps around my neck.
And then one day, I turned 8, my oldest daughter's age.
I wanted a Dorothy Hamill haircut. Because she was the best ice skater.
I went ice skating once on a school field trip and left with stitches.
At least I could look like Dorothy.
My mom and I returned from the salon and I felt very pretty. Back then, short hair was rare.
I am 8 1/2 in this school picture. I've added some pink hair barrettes.
Because I'm fancy like that.
And that bit of hair sticking up? Totally planned.
Actually, I spent years licking my finger and trying to make it lay down on the photograph.
That did not work for me, in case you're wondering.
I re-discovered this photo the other day and couldn't believe how much my 8 year old daughter looks like me. It's uncanny.
I also wondered what in the world my mother was thinking with that pink outfit in the picture.
The other night, I pulled out the photo and blamed asked her.
I don't remember her answer, because honestly? There is no excuse.
I was a Dorothy Hamill look-alike (except for the outfit) for about a year before the home perm abuse began.
Fire away.

You look darling! I'm thinking of future 'fro posts....and bad cuts by Mom. Do you think we need therapy?
Well, as for my 'fro post this week....all my doing. Can't blame Mom. Oh, but the times I could...they're all coming soon.
Your daughter does look like you. I'm guessing there'll be no perms for her? ;)
Rena
Yeah I use to try to b e Kristie Yamaguchi (soooo not spelling that name right). Didnt work out well for me since a)I'm not of asian decent, b) I live in the south where ice is rare, c) I'm not tiny.
Oh well, least I can dance like her ;)
The pink barrettes are just perfectly placed.
Wow, it is uncanny the resemblance of you and your daughter. People say the same thing about me and my daughter. I don't see it yet.
I totally rocked the Dorothy Hamill do in the 6th grade. I was so cool back in 1976 (yikes!) when I wore the Dorothy. You look great with the added pink barrettes..it brings out the pink on your lapels.
I had the Farrah hair....
My mom chopped all my hair off when I was about 6. All of it... I spent the next 5 years telling people I was a girl because she wouldn't let me pierce my ears.
Your daughter is like a mini you. :)
Wow, she does look a lot like you did back then!
You crack me up! Your daughter looks JUST like you. But you knew that already.
What a cute post and you guys are totally twinners.
I had really cute hair before I got a perm...then it went all whack-o on me.
The first thing I thought when I saw your picture, before I scrolled down and saw your daughter's picture was, "Wow, she looks so much like her daughter!"
Made me miss the smell of perm-hair like nothing else! Can you still GET perms? I'd be too embarrassed to ask my hairdresser!
Posted a picture of my perm days. Aarrrgh!
Oh girlfriend! I too had my 11 inches of hair off to get my Dorothy Hammill cut. I loved. loved. loved it.
Here is a post from last month when I posted my do.....

Hey do you have all your kid pics at your house? I have to go to my moms to dig them out. Maybe I need to relocate them!
Hey your outfit is better than the one I chose for 3rd grade school pictures---my sister's Girl Scout uniform... BACKWARDS! DOH!!! I'll never live that one down!
Your outfit is like a mini pink Col. Sander's suit.
But bring on the chicken, girl, 'cuz you are rocking it!
I totally sported the Dorothy Hamill haircut, too! I liked it, but my dad was bummed cuz I cut a ton of my hair off to get it! :o) Thanks for bringing back memories!

Awww...you were adorable! Hasn't every little girl at least once in her life had her hair a little too short? I think mine was first grade...lol...fortunately I think those photos got lost...
I had the same issue as Domestic Spaz...short hair, no earrings, and a brother 2 years older, we were called "you two boys" too many times by sales people . I finally begged to grow it out in 6th grade, no more pixie cuts, no more Dorothy Hamill cuts either!
Kristen, Yes I did see your post on HM's site last week. Thanks so much.
Just like you! Really she looks so much like you, don't you love it? I love it nothing warms my heart more than when people say my girl looks like me.
I really like you short little do. Very hip for the times.
She does look like you! I was actually thinking of doing a post like that of me & my daughter--we were even literally wearing the same dress (my mom saved it all those years!). And I think I had pretty much your same hairdo for a while, complete with the little plastic barrettes.
Wow - your daughter really is your mini-twinnie!
Love the pix!
I love this!! Y'all do look just alike! Thats the way my oldest and myself are. She looked just like me when she was little and even though she hates it, she pretty much looks just like me now.
I love the pink outfit by the way. Its like a pink tuxedo. :)
You're a cutie but I have to agree on the mini Col. Sanders suit. What the heck? Love the pink lapels. You were stylin!
I too spent many years perming my hair and I look back at pics and ask why!! I laugh now because I looked like a q-tip. I was skinny as a rail and had this huge perm fro on top.
Also, you and your daughter look so similar in the pics you posted. It sometimes just gives me chills when I look at my daughter, Kensley. It's like I am looking in a mirror, especially when I look back at my childhood pictures.
How very cute! Love your front teeth in that pic!
Oh come on the Dorthy was awsome. I had it too. It was fabuulous almost as good as the Fara. Your daughter does look just like you. Its amazing
Awww, she does look JUST like you, teeth and all. At least you are aware and will never her wear a dress of shame.
BTW, I was the only (adopted into a freak community in midwest) Asian person for a 25 mile radius where I grew up. I wanted nothing but curls my WHOLE life. Have you ever seen an Asian with a 'fro? Ain't pretty.
So cute! I love how old photos bring out the huge similarities between generations. Well, except the clothes. Yikes.
I'm sure I would have been really envious of your fabulous pink outfit and matching barrettes.
I had Marcia Brady hair, and used to put it up in pigtails. I accessorized with those long yarn thingies. Did they actually have a name? Anyone?
I too wanted Dorothy Hamill hair. She even had a shampoo called short and sassy and I so wanted it. I had long blond hair and my mom would not oblige. Your picture is darling. I finally linked to you.
Now that's definatly your daughter!
Cute pix!
When I was 8 years old I had my hair chopped off! It was also done before a school picture. I will have to find it and scan it in one day and show everyone!
I don't see how much my kids look like me either, until I look at old pictures of me. Then it just gets scary. :)
I forgot to tell you --- I tagged you the other day! Don't feel obligated to participate; I know you're busy, but I did want you to know you're one of my favorite blogs to read.
I can not believe how much your daughter looks like you...just alike. Isn't that fun! You are such a nut at times, and love you for it. Have a GREAT day.
Oh, that was a great shot! I had Dorothy Hamill hair, too. I wish I could find some of those photos!
Fun!
Your daughter looks sooo much like you.
Your daughter definitely looks like you! WOW
As for the outfit, umm... I can't think of an excuse. It looks like one of the pink suits on career girl Barbie. :) So I'm sure you loved it at the time.
I had one of those, ok several of those, haircuts too! I still need to go through my parents cedar chest to dig out those horrid photos. I'm scared though!
I think that outfit is rockin'! I probably would have only worn little bad suits at that age if I had them. I had one, sailor themed. I felt pretty kick butt when I wore it. Maybe I should try to get one now to recapture that feeling.
I kept going back and forth between your and your daughter's photos. It REALLY is uncanny. I actually think your short haircut is sweet! and hey....you were in style with your little pink suit thing. At least it didn't have big brown and orange flowers on it or something like that.
It could've been way worse...I love reading your Fro' posts so much!
I'm running up to dig out some pictures! Your picture looks very much like my timeline! Let me se what I can find! Amazing whenyou look abck at old photos, amused at what was popular and the look of the time! Thanks for sharing!
My mother never cut my hair short, just braided it as tight as possible. You tried to lick your finger to smooth it down-I love your humor.
You & your daughter do look very much alike ... reminds me of a post I did back in May called Eerily Similar :)
You are so lucky that your daughter looks so much like you. When I go places with my daughter people think that she must be adopted. Me tall and red hair. Her short and blonde. Makes you wonder how stuff like that happens.
This week, I lost my 'Fro Me to You virginity. I posted my very first Sincerely post & I swear, it's a good one!
Thanks for the inspiration!!
I went from a pixie cut to a Dorothy that didn't work to perms for many years! Great story!
I love it! You look adorable. The barrettes do add a nice touch.
I had that same hair cut!
And WOW your daughter is your mini-me
wow that is so amazing how much your daughter looks like you!
I love that picture. And what's wrong with that pink outfit, missy?
I just found your blog a short while ago. I really enjoy it!
Today I posted my first Sincerely 'Fro Me to You. I plan to be a regular here because I have lots of pics and lots of stories!
But since I am a newbie, I could not figure out how to put the 'Fro button in my post :(
My mom gave me my first home perm when I was in 2nd grade. That's really all I have to say about THAT.
Your daughgter is a cutie. And she really does look a lot like you.
She looks just like you! I think the haircut was cute.
