Our summer vacations were dominated by road trips.

One of my first memories is of a very long car ride to Disney World, back in the 1970's. It must have been in the winter because our little Ford Pinto didn't have a heater and we kept warm with quilts.

Not something my kids excel at on our road trips these days. We've got the whole audiovisual thing going on in our minivan and a plethora of travel paraphernalia.

And I'm not about to change it. Because I like progression.

Growing up I remember taking road trips too. We drove to Disneyland instead. As the baby of the family I got stuck sitting in the front seat between my parents. My 4 older siblings were all stuffed in the backseat. Ah, the memories. I remember my dad taking a huge dip too fast on purpose and we were all laughing. cajungal01 said...: Yeah, my mom passed away this past January and in going through some of her stuff for photos, I came across a diary/journal she wrote on a trip LONG ago. She and my dad went on a hunting trip for a month (I think) that was all "rouging" it with LOTS of driving, hunting, camping... with his parents AND MY SISTER AND I! I was 3, my sister 5. We apparently went at least a week without showers, had to warm water to wash in, ETC. and they commented that we were great. fabulous!

LOL when I was 12 we used to go to my grandparents house each summer - 3 full months. One trip about maybe 2 - 3 hours out from their house the air conditioner broke in summer, in south Texas. You know when you go through the deserts and see the skeletons I felt I could be one. That was me. Dying from the heat and humidity.
